The Gulf Cooperation Council does not have the luxury of time to fill the gaps in its structure, especially with all the serious regional developments we are witnessing, changes in the strategies of major powers in dealing with the Arab region, and Israel's anticipation to set the stage to play a leading role in shaping the upcoming scene, in addition to Iran, which operates openly and unabashedly to achieve its ambition of infiltration, influence, and hegemony from a standpoint that mixes historical and ideological elements, as stipulated in its revolutionary constitution as a fundamental strategic goal.
Looking at the reality of the Gulf Cooperation Council, which is approaching half a century since its establishment, we find that it has achieved some important accomplishments in various fields according to the needs of the stages, and it has succeeded in overcoming many obstacles and challenges. However, it has not faced a challenge like the one it is currently facing, which targets its security and economy, and threatens the gains that its member states have achieved over a long period of work, patience, and perseverance, to become modern states where citizens enjoy all the achievements of modern civilization. We can say without exaggeration that it is currently facing an unprecedented existential threat that is being executed through different tactics and multiple scenarios, both direct and indirect.
It is natural to understand the existence of differences between the member states in dealing with certain files; this is the nature of politics according to each state's perspective. It is also natural that there is not complete alignment in all viewpoints regarding events and changes. Each state has the right to pursue its interests in the way it sees fit, but when it comes to a comprehensive threat to all states, and plans to undermine their achievements and harm their security and stability, it is then necessary to think and act in a way that serves the higher interest of all, and to reconsider unilateral decisions that contradict this interest.
The Gulf bloc is a single entity geographically and historically, both in the present and the future, and the belief of any state within it that it can deviate from this reality in pursuit of what it sees as its own interest at the expense of the interest of all is a grave mistake that will cost everyone. We are no longer talking about the dream of union or federal unity among the member states as we did before; what we want most now is to sense the danger and the necessity of confronting it with a collective spirit. All secondary issues should be postponed, and all bilateral disputes, whatever they may be, must be transcended in order to face a real threat that endangers everyone. History is watching and recording, and it will judge; let it judge in your favor, not against you.
