It is very difficult, and perhaps premature, if not impossible, to judge the mentality and thought process of the Muslim Brotherhood and similar organizations of political Islam, and to ascertain their belief in the nation-state and their willingness to engage in the national work system. The reason for this difficulty is that their origins and history are fraught with ambiguity, doubts, and suspicion. Perhaps the West, after lifting its grip from the countries it colonized, left behind two nails, or a string in the wall of their unity: problematic border areas, susceptible to disputes and igniting conflict between Arab neighbors whenever it wanted to distract them, along with groups, parties, and organizations to destabilize the interior and threaten from the outside.
If we were to ask, listening intently to the question from the Muslim Brotherhood and the rest of the political Islam organizations: Are you compelled or do you have a choice? What would their answers be? Surely, they would not say: neither this nor that! If they are compelled, why have they not been empowered by those who founded, guided, nurtured, and funded them since 1928? And if they are free to choose, why have they not been honest with themselves and secured themselves with a national fence that enhances their countries' trust in them? If they claim they are not seeking power, why have they made such a fuss since the Egyptian people ousted their rule, and their temple was brought down upon their heads? If they claim they aspire to the presidential throne, what legitimacy do they rely on? What are the convincing justifications and grounds for them to win a cause that has no historical context or current acceptance?
Political Islam groups may overlook a flaw they have fallen into since their naming; they are a group, while nations are communities, and communities are spectrums, and spectrums are streams of ideas, convictions, customs, traditions, heritage, and cultures. No one who reduces Arab culture in all its dimensions and energies and presents it as a religion can govern it with justice and fairness, and then make religion a manifesto to control the inner thoughts, appearances, and consciences, labeling the morals of peoples as a pre-Islamic ignorance that must be uprooted, fought, and corrected with the sword.
The Muslim Brotherhood has gained benefits for which they have dedicated their lives, some of which extend to a century; among these is their infiltration into the lives of Muslims, from cradle to grave, from the streets to factories, from daily details to bedrooms. They have penetrated educational, media, advocacy, and guidance institutions, and circumstances and authority at the time enabled them to become a parallel authority that influences decisions, disrupts projects, elevates and empowers whom they choose, and excludes and distorts whom they wish. I and others cannot imagine that they would relinquish (whether compelled or free) and cease their interference, restrain their tongues, and return to their senses, not to their guide, in light of the human structure they have instilled in them, which has sown an obsession with the true promise. I hope for their reform and return to faith in their nations, even if they are occasionally tempted by daydreams, which I consider a matter of freedom of thought, not freedom of management.
A sane person aspires to live within a family and community, belonging to a state, to achieve what they aspire to in terms of aspirations and rights, and to fulfill their obligations and duties. The family ensures social, psychological, and sometimes economic reassurance, while the state guarantees security and stability, regulates behaviors, enhances dignity, and maintains the safety of people through laws. Communities do not aspire to more than a state that secures their lives and livelihoods, while the purity of belief, soundness of faith, and uprightness of behavior are realized under a state that cultivates love, plants affection, and rejects anything that disturbs the peace of its people or disrupts their tranquility and Islam.
No group will succeed in dreaming and aspiring to be a guardian over ideas and convictions, this world and the next; this is the priesthood that has intruded upon Islam since the dark ages. Those who have been misled and joined their ranks, defending them, have paid a heavy price while they watch the scene from resorts and winter retreats, indulging in the arms of (the devil), whom they publicly curse and secretly ally with, as he aids them in opposing family and loved ones. There is no sane person who wishes to spend their life scattered between exiles and prisons for an idea that has no legitimacy from the outset; rather, it is a harm that a person brings upon themselves, deluding themselves with good intentions, believing they are fit for rule, especially since the image of the caliph they saw in series applies to them! Knowing that throughout history, the qualifications for ruling have not been represented solely in religiosity, and the reference in governance is the society that accepts whoever fulfills its interests and frees it from entanglements.
It is natural and logical for a politician to operate from a purely worldly agenda, pushing them to consider the balance of power and utilize all cards without burning any of them, with the primary motivation being the preservation of their entity from any breaches or destabilization. However, political Islam groups, led by the Brotherhood, operate from a religious, even doctrinal, and ideological agenda through which they see a promise of empowerment on earth, justifying their political maneuvers, believing they have a reward for their actions (according to their erroneous assumptions). They negotiate without conceding, promise without fulfilling, and perhaps do not abandon dreams they have long seen as closer than the jugular vein, and no one can compete with them in established truths and the creation of terms. For them, the one fleeing from the law is a migrant, the prisoner by judicial ruling is a captive, the deceased among them is a martyr, the traitor among them is wronged, the thief is innocent, and so on.
** A gesture; (And if they intend to betray you, they have already betrayed Allah before, so He has given them power over you. And Allah is Knowing and Wise).
