I would not exaggerate if I said that for a very long time, extending over three decades, I have been eagerly waiting for this day when I see a team representing Saudi football in a continental event that qualifies it for the World Cup finals, with such high-quality players who remind me a lot of the Zayani team in Asia and Solari in the 94 World Cup.
- I was particularly pleased with the Green's coach, Mr. Renard, as his selections did not focus on a single club. He succeeded—truth be told—in including the best players who have shown very good levels with their clubs in the Saudi league, which will reflect positively on their collective performance, individual skills, and fighting spirit this evening, God willing, in a decisive match against the Indonesian team, which shares the same hopes and ambitions of qualifying from this playoff to the World Cup, and should not be underestimated even if many of its top players are injured.
- I would not exaggerate either if I said that I am very optimistic about this team, and about a crushing victory that it will achieve with a suicidal spirit that the world will witness tonight, and it will be unbelievable to see. They will see a "complete" team whose players are keen to present a "completely different" image from previous ones that, not long ago, caused concern and fear. The last we saw was a team that did not qualify directly for the World Cup finals, which made the current team's task in the "to be or not to be" playoff more difficult, but they will overcome it with the determination of champions.
- Some may see my words as an exaggeration of optimism, and that it is a form of motivation, support, and encouragement for the Green players. If we consider this opinion "correct," is it conceivable that its positive impact is much greater than the effect of fans who will fill the Al-Inma Stadium this evening, numbering up to 60,000 supporters?
There is no comparison; what I have written earlier in the language of optimism primarily stems from the players themselves. They are great stars, "the pride of the present," and they will meet the expectations of our wise leadership, the nation, and its lovers. We will see them tonight writing "creativity" on the green pitch that exceeds our imagination, culminating—inshallah—in a historic victory that calls for a greater phase of optimism, with a victory that will be achieved over the Iraqi team, and a qualification that spreads joy in our hearts towards a team that must be preserved; to represent its stars in full number in the upcoming World Cup with the same starting and reserve formation.
- It is a big dream that has certainly crossed their minds many times in their waking and sleeping moments, while I see it before my eyes as a fixed reality: a suicidal Green... and the joy is Saudi.
