Despite the international sympathy that Israel received following the October 7 attack, particularly from many major powers—specifically those that believed Israel had the right to defend itself to prevent a recurrence of such events in the future—and despite the influx of world leaders to Israel to offer heartfelt condolences to the victims' families, given the number of victims and hostages that Hamas managed to kill and capture, this led Israel itself to declare that it was waging a comprehensive war against Hamas.
However, the world was taken aback by an Israeli response that was violent, illogical, unexpected, and completely unacceptable. The Gaza Strip, which does not exceed 700 square kilometers and is home to nearly two and a half million Palestinians, became a playground for the Israeli killing machine, which transcended the concept of self-defense to that of genocide. Day by day, the world began to see the outlines of the organized extermination campaign that Israel was pursuing against the residents of Gaza and the West Bank, revealing how Israel used the events of October 7 as a pretext to displace Palestinians as a step towards settling Gaza and the West Bank.
It is clear that the idea of settling Gaza has never been absent from the minds of Israeli leaders; it is a concept that has been central to the Israeli mentality even before the events of October 7, which presented Israel with a golden opportunity to seize Gaza with international blessing, and in full view of the international community that supported and backed Israel at the beginning of the events. Indeed, Israel did not waste the opportunity and exploited it, beginning to destroy the Strip almost entirely, indifferent to the unprecedented number of casualties.
However, what Israel did not realize is that the horrific campaign of repression it undertook resulted in widespread popular protests in several regions around the world, first and foremost within Israel's biggest ally, the United States. This was in addition to legal calls against Israel and efforts to issue resolutions against Netanyahu himself and several of his ministers as war criminals, along with the numerous disputes that arose between Israel and many countries that previously had good relations with it. Israel could not have imagined that all of this would lead to the emergence and crystallization of a political decision: the recognition of the Palestinian state by many countries around the world, especially the major powers.
There is no doubt that the decision to recognize the state of Palestine carries very strong political messages, the most important of which is undermining the very Israeli dream of erasing Palestine and Palestinians from the political scene, hoping that this idea and policy will later be solidified by the reality of the situation, leading the world to gradually forget any rights for Palestinians. The recognition of the state of Palestine means that this state will have a tangible existence on a specific piece of land (their historical land), and it also means that it will have embassies in various countries that recognize it, with the Palestinian flag being raised above them, fluttering freely to announce the birth of that long-awaited state. This has already happened in Britain, and there is no doubt that the international conference led by Saudi Arabia in cooperation with France has borne fruit, with the number of countries that recognized Palestine reaching 150 at the time of writing these lines.
It is certain that more international recognitions of the state of Palestine will follow later. As for Israel, which announces day after day its intention to obstruct such recognitions and never acknowledge them, it unfortunately does not excel at reading the messages directed at it, as if its leaders live in their own world, far removed from the policies and decisions of the international community. Just days ago, Israeli leaders stated Israel's firm intention to thwart any attempt to establish a Palestinian state.
It is completely clear that the deliberate destruction of the city of Gaza and the premeditated massacres being committed against its residents have the primary goal of displacing the Palestinian people. The aim of this war, as has become very clear, is to annex Gaza to Israel. Hamas has never been the sole target of all this destruction and massive violence; Hamas is merely a pretext presented to Israel on a silver platter to enable it to achieve its fantastical dream and its dubious agenda, which has begun to dissipate and evaporate as the Israeli machine continues its blatant aggression, leading to a new reality in which Palestine has emerged victorious.
