ضرب زلزال بقوة 6.3 درجات، اليوم (الخميس)، دولة فانواتو الواقعة في جنوب المحيط الهادئ، وفق بيانات هيئة المسح الجيولوجي الأمريكية.
وحددت الهيئة مركز الزلزال على بعد نحو 102 كيلومتر شمال شرقي نورسوب، وعلى عمق يقارب 10 كيلومترات، فيما صنفت مستوى الخطر العام باللون الأخضر، ما يشير إلى احتمال منخفض للخسائر البشرية والاقتصادية الكبيرة.
لا تحذير من تسونامي
وأفاد مركز التحذير من أمواج تسونامي في المحيط الهادئ بعدم صدور أي تحذير أو مراقبة أو تهديد من أمواج مد عاتية عقب الزلزال.
منطقة نشطة زلزالياً
وتقع فانواتو ضمن «حلقة النار» في المحيط الهادئ، وهي من أكثر مناطق العالم نشاطاً زلزالياً وبركانياً، وتشهد بشكل متكرر هزات متفاوتة القوة.
ولم ترد، حتى وقت إعداد الخبر، تقارير مؤكدة عن وقوع أضرار كبيرة أو إصابات جراء الزلزال.
A 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck the country of Vanuatu in the South Pacific today (Thursday), according to data from the U.S. Geological Survey.
The agency identified the earthquake's epicenter as being about 102 kilometers northeast of Norsup, at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers, while classifying the overall risk level as green, indicating a low likelihood of significant human and economic losses.
No tsunami warning
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported that no warnings, monitoring, or threats of tsunami waves were issued following the earthquake.
Seismically active region
Vanuatu is located within the "Ring of Fire" in the Pacific, one of the most seismically and volcanically active areas in the world, frequently experiencing tremors of varying intensity.
No confirmed reports of significant damage or injuries resulting from the earthquake had been received by the time this news was prepared.
