"Meta" is moving towards expanding the role of artificial intelligence, from providing answers and suggestions to executing daily tasks on behalf of the user, in a shift that places "trust" at the heart of the new competition among tech companies to develop personal agents.
According to a report by the "Wall Street Journal," the company is working on a personal AI agent capable of handling tasks that require a higher level of permissions and access to user data, including managing appointments, emails, purchases, and some financial transactions.
This direction gives the concept of the "smart agent" a different dimension; its ability to access services and data becomes a prerequisite for executing tasks, in exchange for questions regarding the extent of the permissions that users can grant to a system that operates on their behalf. Privacy and data protection emerge as some of the most significant challenges associated with this type of service, especially as artificial intelligence transitions from conversational spaces to taking practical steps across multiple applications and accounts.
This transformation places tech companies in a situation that goes beyond developing a smarter model to building a level of trust that allows users to delegate part of their digital tasks to an agent capable of executing them.
