The CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, supported the call from the CEO of Anthropic, Dario Amodei, to slow down the pace of the race to develop advanced artificial intelligence systems, in a stance that reflects the growing concern within the industry about the rapid leaps being made by new models.
Altman clarified his support for granting independent evaluators broader access to advanced models, allowing for more rigorous testing before scaling their use, especially as their capabilities and autonomy in executing tasks grow.
Altman's position aligned with Amodei's proposal, which urged AI companies to give safety and alignment measures more time, away from the accelerated race to launch more powerful models.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, joined the discussion by supporting Amodei's proposal, notably bringing together safety concerns with the names of leaders from companies that are fiercely competing for the future of artificial intelligence.
This convergence places the speed of development against safety standards at the heart of the technical discussion, as concerns shift from research circles to the company leadership itself.
