The American Hurricane Center revealed today (Thursday) that the Pacific Ocean is experiencing a rare phenomenon characterized by the presence of three hurricanes due to rising water temperatures caused by the "El Niño" phenomenon.
Climatologist Julia Cole from the University of Michigan commented on the phenomenon, stating, "Seeing three hurricanes at the same time is undoubtedly a rare occurrence," explaining that the warming phenomenon associated with "El Niño" creates favorable conditions for these storms, which heavily rely on warm water. She noted that when the tropical Pacific Ocean waters are warmer than usual, we witness an increase in powerful storms.
The center reported that Hurricane "Lowe" was located about 710 kilometers south of Hilo, Hawaii, while Hurricane "Karina" is weakening as it moves northwest. Meanwhile, Hurricane "Mare" is coming from the east after being located about 600 kilometers southwest of California.
