كشف تحقيق استقصائي أجرته شبكة «سي إن إن» عن وجه مظلم لواحدة من أشهر الألعاب الترفيهية وأكثرها إثارة، وهي الأفعوانية الشهيرة «X2» في منتزه «سيكس فلاغز ماجيك ماونتن» بولاية كاليفورنيا، والتي ثبت تورطها عبر السنوات في التسبب بنزيف دماغي حاد وإصابات بالغة للعديد من الركاب.
وفي شهر يوليو الماضي وحده، وجد أطباء جراحة الأعصاب في جنوب كاليفورنيا أنفسهم أمام حالات طارئة ومماثلة لامرأتين أُصيبتا بنزيف حاد في الدماغ تطلب تدخلاً جراحياً عاجلاً لإنقاذ حياتهما في غضون أسبوع واحد فقط. والغريب أن هذه الإصابات الخطيرة، التي تشبه عادةً تداعيات حوادث السير المروعة، لم تكن سوى حصيلة جولة على متن هذه الأفعوانية التي تصل سرعتها إلى نحو 130 كم/ساعة وتتميز بمقاعد تدور كاملة بزاوية 360 درجة. وعقب الحادثة الأخيرة التي وقعت في 12 يوليو، سارعت إدارة المنتزه إلى إغلاق اللعبة بشكل مفاجئ ودون تقديم توضيحات رسمية، وسط التزام المسؤولين الصمت وبدء هيئة السلامة المهنية في كاليفورنيا تحقيقات موسعة.
سجل أسود وشكاوى متراكمة
ولا تُعد هذه الحوادث وليدة الصدفة؛ فقد أظهر التحقيق أن الأفعوانية تحمل تاريخاً طويلاً من البلاغات التي تجاوزت 12 حالة إصابة دماغية، ونزيف داخلي، وسكتات على مدار عقديْن، فضلاً عن حالتي وفاة مسجلتين. وكان من أبرز تلك الفواجع وفاة الشاب كريستوف هاولي (22 عاماً) في عام 2022 نتيجة نزيف دماغي حاد داهمه بعد دقائق معدودة من مغادرته اللعبة. كما كشفت السجلات الداخلية للمنتزه عن تلقي أكثر من 70 شكوى رسمية بشأن آلام حادة في الرأس والرقبة خلال فترة ثلاث سنوات فقط سبقت رحيل هاولي.
وفي المقابل، تتمسك إدارة المنتزه بموقفها القانوني مستندةً إلى لوحات التحذير المنتشرة التي تنبه الزوار إلى «المخاطر المحتملة»، معتبرة أن القوى الفيزيائية للعبة لا ينبغي أن تسبب أذى للراكب «الطبيعي».
An investigative report by CNN has revealed a dark side to one of the most famous and thrilling amusement rides, the iconic "X2" roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California, which has been implicated over the years in causing severe brain hemorrhages and serious injuries to numerous riders.
In just the month of July alone, neurosurgeons in Southern California found themselves facing emergency cases similar to that of two women who suffered acute brain hemorrhages requiring urgent surgical intervention to save their lives within just one week. Strangely, these serious injuries, which typically resemble the aftermath of horrific car accidents, were merely the result of a ride on this roller coaster that reaches speeds of about 130 km/h and features seats that rotate fully at a 360-degree angle. Following the recent incident that occurred on July 12, the park management quickly moved to close the ride unexpectedly without providing official explanations, while officials remained silent and the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration began extensive investigations.
A Dark Record and Accumulated Complaints
These incidents are not coincidental; the investigation revealed that the roller coaster has a long history of reports exceeding 12 cases of brain injuries, internal bleeding, and strokes over two decades, in addition to two recorded fatalities. Among the most notable tragedies was the death of 22-year-old Christoph Hawley in 2022, who suffered an acute brain hemorrhage just minutes after leaving the ride. Internal park records also revealed that more than 70 official complaints regarding severe headaches and neck pain were filed within just three years prior to Hawley's death.
In contrast, the park management maintains its legal stance based on the warning signs posted throughout the area that alert visitors to "potential risks," arguing that the physical forces of the ride should not cause harm to the "average" rider.
