أعلنت الهيئة الوطنية للحد من مخاطر الكوارث وإدارتها في النيبال، ارتفاع حصيلة الضحايا جرّاء الفيضانات المفاجئة التي اجتاحت الحدود بين نيبال ومنطقة التّبت الصينية الأربعاء الماضي إلى 538 شخصًا.
وأضافت الهيئة اليوم، أن 977 شخصًا ما زالوا في عداد المفقودين، بما فيهم 517 مواطنًا أجنبيًا.
ومن جهة أخرى، أعلن مجلس السياحة في النيبال، إنقاذ 121 مواطنًا أجنبيًا على الأقل، موضحًا أنه يوجد من بين الذين تم إنقاذهم 85 مواطنًا هنديًا و16 صينيًا و9 كوريين، في حين لم يتم تحديد جنسية ثلاثة أشخاص.
وأضاف المجلس، أنه يتم بذل جميع الجهود اللازمة في الوقت الحالي من أجل إنقاذ وإجلاء المصابين والعالقين والمتضررين جرّاء هذه الفيضانات.
وتُعدّ منطقة الهيمالايا، التي تمتد عبر النيبال والهند والصين وبوتان، من أكثر المناطق عرضة للفيضانات والانهيارات الأرضية، في ظل ارتفاع درجات الحرارة فيها بوتيرة أسرع من مناطق أخرى حول العالم نتيجة أزمة المناخ.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority in Nepal announced that the death toll from the flash floods that swept the border between Nepal and the Chinese Tibet region last Wednesday has risen to 538 people.
The authority added today that 977 people are still missing, including 517 foreign nationals.
On another note, the Nepal Tourism Board announced the rescue of at least 121 foreign nationals, clarifying that among those rescued are 85 Indian citizens, 16 Chinese, and 9 Koreans, while the nationality of three individuals has not been identified.
The board added that all necessary efforts are currently being made to rescue and evacuate the injured, stranded, and affected individuals due to these floods.
The Himalayan region, which spans Nepal, India, China, and Bhutan, is one of the most flood- and landslide-prone areas, with temperatures rising at a faster rate than in other parts of the world due to the climate crisis.
