أمرت السلطات الكندية بإجلاء أكثر من 20 ألف شخص من منازلهم، مع اتساع حريق غابات سريع الانتشار في مقاطعة كولومبيا البريطانية غربي البلاد واقترابه من بلدات على بحيرة أوكاناجان.
وشملت أوامر الإجلاء جميع سكان بلدة سمرلاند، البالغ عددهم نحو 12 ألف نسمة، إضافة إلى نحو 8 آلاف شخص في بلدة بيتش لاند والمناطق المحيطة بها، فيما لم تحدد السلطات حتى الآن عدد المنازل التي دمرها الحريق.
وبدأ حريق «بالد رينج» مساء أمس، واتسع خلال ساعات إلى نحو 5 آلاف هكتار، قاطعاً مسافة تقارب 15 كيلومتراً باتجاه سمرلاند، فيما أعلنت السلطات المحلية حالة الطوارئ في المنطقة.
ووصف مسؤول في إدارة الطوارئ بمنطقة أوكاناجان-سيميلكامين الحريق بأنه من أسرع حرائق الغابات انتشاراً ونمواً التي شهدتها المنطقة.
The Canadian authorities ordered the evacuation of more than 20,000 people from their homes as a rapidly spreading wildfire in British Columbia, in the west of the country, approached towns near Okanagan Lake.
The evacuation orders included all residents of the town of Summerland, which has a population of about 12,000, as well as around 8,000 people in the town of Peachland and the surrounding areas, while authorities have not yet specified the number of homes destroyed by the fire.
The "Bald Range" fire started last night and expanded within hours to about 5,000 hectares, covering a distance of nearly 15 kilometers towards Summerland, while local authorities declared a state of emergency in the area.
An official from the emergency management office in the Okanagan-Similkameen region described the fire as one of the fastest spreading and growing wildfires the area has ever witnessed.
