لقي 26 شخصاً على الأقل حتفهم خلال الأسبوع الحالي في ولاية آسام شمال شرق الهند جراء فيضانات أعقبت هطول أمطار غزيرة، بحسب السلطات المحلية، مضيفة أنه من المتوقع أن تجتاح مزيد من العواصف الرعدية والرياح القوية مناطق عدة من شمال البلاد وشرقها (الأربعاء).
وذكرت الهيئة المعنية بإدارة الكوارث في ولاية آسام، أن 21 شخصاً لقوا حتفهم أمس، بعد أن اجتاحت فيضانات شديدة الولاية، ليرتفع إجمالي الوفيات خلال الأسبوع إلى 26.
وأفادت السلطات بأن نهر «براهمابوترا»، أحد أطول أنهار العالم، تجاوز منسوب الأمان في عدد من المناطق.
وتشهد الولاية أضراراً ناجمة عن زيادة تدفق المياه بشكل شبه سنوي خلال الأمطار الموسمية. وحذرت السلطات في ولاية «هيماتشال براديش» الواقعة في جبال الهيمالايا، من حدوث سيول وفيضانات بمناطق من الولاية اليوم.
At least 26 people have died this week in the state of Assam in northeastern India due to floods following heavy rainfall, according to local authorities, who added that more thunderstorms and strong winds are expected to sweep through several areas of northern and eastern India on Wednesday.
The Assam Disaster Management Authority reported that 21 people died yesterday after severe floods hit the state, raising the total number of fatalities for the week to 26.
Authorities stated that the Brahmaputra River, one of the longest rivers in the world, has exceeded safe levels in several areas.
The state experiences damage from increased water flow almost annually during the monsoon rains. Authorities in Himachal Pradesh, located in the Himalayas, warned of possible flash floods in parts of the state today.
