اندلع حريق اليوم بالقرب من «كوستا برافا» شمال شرق إسبانيا، ما دفع السلطات إلى فرض الإغلاق على نحو 10 بلديات في هذه المنطقة من ساحل كاتالونيا.
وأفاد رئيس جهاز الإطفاء الكتالوني ديفيد بوريل بأن الحريق بدأ صباح اليوم بالقرب من بلدة لا بيسبال دي إمبوردا، بالقرب من جيرونا شمال شرق إقليم كتالونيا على بعد نحو 20 كيلومترًا من ساحل البحر الأبيض المتوسط، وأسهمت الرياح في تأجيج النيران، ما أدى إلى تكوين سحابة كثيفة من الدخان.
وفي ظل تفاقم الأوضاع بسبب الرياح، طلب رئيس حكومة كاتالونيا الإقليمية سلفادور إيلا تدخل الجيش ووحدة الطوارئ العسكرية التابعة له لإخماد هذا الحريق، إضافة إلى حريق آخر أصغر حجمًا اندلع شمالًا.
وشهدت إسبانيا الواقعة على خط المواجهة لتغير المناخ «أسوأ حرائق في تاريخها الحديث» الصيف الماضي.
A fire broke out today near "Costa Brava" in northeastern Spain, prompting authorities to impose a lockdown on about 10 municipalities in this area of the Catalonia coast.
Catalan fire chief David Borrell reported that the fire started this morning near the town of La Bisbal d'Empordà, close to Girona in northeastern Catalonia, about 20 kilometers from the Mediterranean coast, and the winds contributed to fueling the flames, resulting in a thick cloud of smoke.
As conditions worsened due to the winds, the President of the Catalonia regional government, Salvador Illa, requested the intervention of the army and its military emergency unit to extinguish this fire, in addition to another smaller fire that broke out to the north.
Spain, located on the front line of climate change, experienced "the worst fires in its modern history" last summer.
