في غضون 20 يوماً فقط، نجحت الأجهزة الأمنية في محافظة البصرة العراقية بفك خيوط جريمة قتل غامضة، حاول من خلالها الجاني توجيه أصابع الاتهام نحو «شبح مجهول» للتنصل من فعلته، قبل أن يقع في شر أعماله بسبب تفصيل لم يحسب له حساباً.
تبعت فصول القضية مساراً درامياً؛ إذ بدأت ببلاغ تقدم به مواطن للشرطة مدعياً اختفاء شقيقه وانقطاع أخباره تماماً. وبعد مرور نحو ثلاثة أسابيع، عاد مقدم البلاغ نفسه ليعلن فجأة عثوره على جثة أخيه في حالة تفسخ متقدمة داخل منطقة «البترو» التابعة لقضاء الزبير.
الخيط الذي قطع الشك باليقين
عندما انتقلت فرق الأدلة الجنائية والتحقيق إلى الموقع، عثرت بالقرب من الجثة المتهالكة على ورقة غريبة، ترك فيها كاتبها اعترافاً ضمنياً بأنه «دهس الضحية بالخطأ» وطلب فيها العفو والصفح.
لكن الحيلة لم تنطلِ على محققي البصرة؛ إذ قادت الشكوك والتحقيقات الفنية الدقيقة إلى مطابقة الخط الموجود في الرسالة مع خط يد الشقيق (مُبلغ الواقعة). وجاءت النتيجة متطابقة تماماً، ليتوجّه إليه الاتهام مباشرة. وأمام الأدلة الدامغة، انهار المتهم واعترف صراحة بتصفية شقيقه بسلاح ناري إثر خلافات عائلية محتدمة، مرشداً الأمن إلى مكان السلاح المستخدم، لتتم إحالته فوراً إلى القضاء.
In just 20 days, the security forces in the Iraqi province of Basra succeeded in unraveling the threads of a mysterious murder, in which the perpetrator attempted to shift the blame onto a "mysterious ghost" to evade responsibility for his actions, before falling into the trap of his own deeds due to a detail he had not accounted for.
The case unfolded dramatically; it began with a report filed by a citizen to the police claiming that his brother had disappeared and that there had been no news of him at all. After about three weeks, the same person who filed the report suddenly returned to announce that he had found his brother's body in an advanced state of decomposition in the "Petro" area of the Al-Zubair district.
The thread that cut through the doubt with certainty
When forensic and investigative teams arrived at the scene, they found a strange note near the decaying body, in which the writer implicitly confessed that he had "accidentally run over the victim" and requested forgiveness and pardon.
However, the trick did not fool the investigators in Basra; suspicions and meticulous technical investigations led to a match between the handwriting in the note and that of the brother (the one who reported the incident). The result was a perfect match, leading to direct accusations against him. Faced with overwhelming evidence, the accused broke down and openly confessed to killing his brother with a firearm following intense family disputes, guiding the authorities to the location of the weapon used, and he was immediately referred to the judiciary.
