اهتزت مناطق غرب مدينة اللاذقية على الساحل السوري فجر اليوم (الأربعاء)، إثر هزة أرضية متوسطة الشدة ضربت سورية.
وأكد المركز الوطني للزلازل في سورية، أن محطاته سجلت، ليل الثلاثاء، هزة أرضية بلغت قوتها 3.9 درجة على مقياس «ريختر».
وأوضح المركز الوطني أن الهزة الأرضية وقعت على عمق 6.6 كيلومتر، في البحر الأبيض المتوسط، غرب مدينة اللاذقية بنحو 28 كيلومتراً.
ونقلت وكالة «سانا»، عن مدير المركز جمال زكور، قوله إن الهزة لم تسفر عن أي إصابات، مبيناً أن مثل هذه الهزات تُسجّل بشكل دوري في المنطقة البحرية المتوسطية، وتتم متابعتها من خلال محطات الرصد في المركز.
ويقع حوض البحر الأبيض المتوسط ضمن نطاق نشاط زلزالي معروف، نتيجة تقاطعه مع عدة فوالق نشطة، ما يؤدي إلى تسجيل هزات أرضية متفاوتة الشدة بين الحين والآخر.
Areas in the west of the city of Latakia on the Syrian coast shook early today (Wednesday) due to a moderate earthquake that struck Syria.
The National Earthquake Center in Syria confirmed that its stations recorded an earthquake on Tuesday night with a magnitude of 3.9 on the Richter scale.
The National Center explained that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 6.6 kilometers in the Mediterranean Sea, about 28 kilometers west of the city of Latakia.
The SANA news agency reported that the center's director, Jamal Zakour, stated that the earthquake did not result in any injuries, noting that such tremors are recorded periodically in the Mediterranean marine area and are monitored through the center's observation stations.
The Mediterranean Sea basin falls within a known seismic activity zone due to its intersection with several active faults, leading to varying degrees of earthquakes being recorded from time to time.
