لقي 16 شخصاً حتفهم إثر حريق شب في دار للمسنين في مدينة مانادو بجزيرة سولاويسي الإندونيسية.
وقال قائد شرطة مانادو الإندونيسية في مؤتمر صحفي: «اندلع الحريق في دار ويردا داماي للمسنين، ولا تزال السلطات تحقق في سبب نشوبه».
وأظهرت لقطات تلفزيونية ألسنة اللهب المتصاعدة من الدار خلال الليل وسكاناً وهم يساعدون أحد المسنين على الخروج من المبنى.
وأضاف: «فرق الإطفاء تمكنت من إخماد الحريق»، مشيراً إلى أن عدد من كانوا في المبنى يقدر بنحو 30 شخصاً.
Sixteen people died in a fire that broke out at a nursing home in the city of Manado on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi.
The head of the Manado police said at a press conference: "The fire broke out at the Werdha Damai nursing home, and authorities are still investigating the cause of the blaze."
Television footage showed flames rising from the home during the night, with residents helping an elderly person escape from the building.
He added: "Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire," noting that the number of people in the building was estimated to be around 30.
