تصعيد إعلامي وسياسي
سرعان ما تداول الموضوع مؤثرون وشخصيات عامة مثل إيلون ماسك ورودي جولياني، بالإضافة إلى المدعي العام لإنديانا تود روكيتا، الذي وصف تعليقها بـ«الحقير» وشكك في جدارتها لمنصب قيادي. ووصلت المنشورات إلى ملايين المشاهدات.
تهديدات بالقتل
تلقت سويرك رسالة صوتية تهددها بنفس المصير الذي لاقاه كيرك، الأمر الذي دفعها للاتصال بالشرطة خوفًا على سلامتها. «كان أسوأ يوم في حياتي»، تقول سوزان، مؤكدة تأثرها الجسدي والنفسي من الحملة.

A Comment Became a Public Issue
The reason? A private post on her Facebook account stating, "If you think Charlie Kirk is a great person, we cannot be friends." Despite the post's privacy, one of her followers took a screenshot and shared it via a popular account on "X" (formerly Twitter), sparking a storm of outrage.
Media and Political Escalation
The topic was quickly circulated by influencers and public figures such as Elon Musk and Rudy Giuliani, as well as Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita, who described her comment as "disgraceful" and questioned her qualifications for a leadership position. The posts reached millions of views.
Death Threats
Swierk received a voicemail threatening her with the same fate as Kirk, prompting her to contact the police out of fear for her safety. "It was the worst day of my life," Susan says, confirming the physical and psychological impact of the campaign on her.
University Censorship
Ball State University has a system that allows students to anonymously report professors for alleged bias, under new laws in Indiana aimed at combating what is called "liberal bias" in education. The case has become a sign of the rising censorship of free speech in educational institutions.
Community Division
While some see her dismissal as a necessary step to prevent hate speech and political violence, others express concern over the erosion of free speech and violation of fundamental rights, asserting that holding a differing opinion should not expose individuals to losing their jobs.
