The Legacy of Voice of America
Since its establishment in 1942, Voice of America has played a central role in disseminating independent news in countries that stifle press freedom, such as China, Iran, and Russia. It previously broadcast in 49 languages and reached over 360 million listeners weekly, but since Trump's decision to shut it down, the broadcast has been reduced to just one hour a day.

Even some Republican members of Congress expressed concern over attempts to close the agency, calling for respect for its role in "bringing the truth to people who are denied hearing it."
