أصدرت السلطات الروسية تحذيراً عاجلاً من تسونامي على طول ساحل شبه جزيرة كامتشاتكا، داعية السكان إلى الابتعاد فوراً عن الشواطئ والمناطق المنخفضة، بعد وقوع زلزال قوي بلغت قوته 7.4 درجة على مقياس ريختر قبالة الساحل الشرقي لهذه المنطقة البركانية النشطة اليوم (السبت).

وسُجل الزلزال في الساعة 22:17 بتوقيت غرينتش (5:17 صباحاً بتوقيت كامتشاتكا)، وفقاً لإدارة المسح الجيولوجي الأمريكية، التي خفضت قوته أولياً من 7.5 إلى 7.4، إذ شعر السكان بهزات عنيفة، مما دفع الكثيرين إلى الفرار من المنازل والمباني العامة، وأصدر مركز التحذير من التسونامي في المحيط الهادئ تنبيهاً فورياً عن «موجات خطرة محتملة» على السواحل الروسية في دائرة نصف قطرها 300 كم حول مركز الزلزال، مع إمكانية وصول موجات تصل إلى متر واحد.
وأعلن حاكم كامتشاتكا فلاديمير سولودوف عبر وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي: «ابتعدوا عن السواحل فوراً واصعدوا إلى أماكن مرتفعة»، مشدداً على ضرورة الالتزام بإجراءات السلامة، في حين لم يُبلغ عن إصابات أو أضرار كبيرة حتى الآن، لكن الزلزال أدى إلى انقطاعات في الكهرباء والخدمات الهاتفية المتنقلة في بعض المناطق.

The Kamchatka Peninsula is located in the far east of Russia, along the "Ring of Fire" in the Pacific Ocean, a geologically active area where the Pacific tectonic plate collides with the North American plate, making it prone to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. It has a population of about 300,000, most of whom live in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, which has around 180,000 residents, and the economy relies on fishing and volcanic tourism.
Historically, the region has experienced devastating earthquakes, such as the 1952 earthquake with a magnitude of 9 that triggered a 9-meter tsunami in Hawaii, and the July 2025 earthquake with a magnitude of 8.8 that caused injuries and moderate damage along with a 3-4 meter tsunami in some areas. The current earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 39.5 km east of the city at a distance of 111 km, is considered a potential foreshock related to that series, according to a Russian geophysical institute.

The earthquake was recorded at 22:17 GMT (5:17 AM Kamchatka time), according to the U.S. Geological Survey, which initially downgraded its magnitude from 7.5 to 7.4. Residents felt violent tremors, prompting many to flee their homes and public buildings. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued an immediate alert for "potentially dangerous waves" along the Russian coasts within a 300 km radius of the earthquake's epicenter, with waves possibly reaching one meter.
Kamchatka Governor Vladimir Solodov announced via social media: "Move away from the coasts immediately and go to higher ground," emphasizing the need to adhere to safety measures. No injuries or significant damage have been reported so far, but the earthquake caused power outages and disruptions to mobile phone services in some areas.
Authorities evacuated residents in coastal areas, including the nearby Kuril Islands, and temporarily closed schools and airports. In Japan, no tsunami warning was issued, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency, despite the area's proximity.
