لقي 15 شخصا مصرعهم إثر سقوط حافلة سياحية تقل نحو ثلاثين راكبا في منحدر على طريق جبلي وسط سريلانكا.
وأوضحت الشرطة أن الحافلة اصطدمت بمركبة أخرى قبل أن تسقط في واد عميق بمنطقة إيلا الواقعة على بعد 130 كيلومترا شرق العاصمة كولومبو، في حادثة لم تحدد أسبابها بعد.
وبينت السلطات المحلية أن الضحايا هم 14 راكبا من السياح المحليين بالإضافة إلى سائق الحافلة، كما أسفرت الحادثة عن إصابة 16 شخصا بجروح متفاوتة الخطورة.
وتعد هذه الحادثة الأكثر حصدا للأرواح على طرقات سريلانكا منذ مايو الماضي، حينما سقطت حافلة في واد بمنطقة كوتمالي في وسط البلاد، ما أسفر عن مصرع 23 شخصا.
وتسجل سريلانكا سنويا نحو ثلاثة آلاف وفاة نتيجة حوادث المرور على الطرقات.
Fifteen people lost their lives when a tourist bus carrying about thirty passengers fell into a slope on a mountain road in central Sri Lanka.
The police explained that the bus collided with another vehicle before falling into a deep ravine in the Ella area, located 130 kilometers east of the capital Colombo, in an incident whose causes have not yet been determined.
Local authorities indicated that the victims include 14 passengers who were local tourists, in addition to the bus driver. The incident also resulted in 16 people sustaining injuries of varying severity.
This incident is the deadliest on Sri Lankan roads since last May, when a bus fell into a ravine in the Kotmale area in the central part of the country, resulting in the deaths of 23 people.
Sri Lanka records about three thousand deaths annually due to traffic accidents on its roads.
