نشرت شرطة لوس أنجلوس تسجيلاً مصوراً يوثّق لحظات درامية قبل أن تُطلق النار على رجل من أصول هندية، يُدعى غوربريت سينغ (35 عاماً)، وترديه قتيلاً بعد أن هدد المارة بـ«ساطور» ضخم في وسط مدينة لوس أنجلوس.
وبحسب الشرطة، فإن سينغ أوقف سيارته فجأة وسط تقاطع مزدحم بين شارعي فيغيروا وأولمبيك، وبدأ يلوّح بساطور يبلغ طوله نحو 60 سم بطريقة عدوانية، مهدداً المارة.
وأطلقت الشرطة مطاردة قصيرة بعد أن صدم سينغ سيارة تابعة لهم، ليوقفه الضباط في تقاطع آخر. وعند اقترابهم، ترجّل من السيارة وركض نحوهم حاملاً الساطور، فاضطر الضباط لإطلاق النار عليه.
نُقل سينغ إلى المستشفى على الفور، لكنه فارق الحياة لاحقاً متأثراً بجراحه.
وأكدت الشرطة أن أداة الجريمة - ساطور بطول قدمين - عُثر عليها في مكان الحادثة، ولم يُصب أي من الضباط أو المدنيين خلال الحادثة.
وما زال التحقيق جارياً لمعرفة دوافع الحادثة، في حين أثار الفيديو الذي نُشر على قناة الشرطة الرسمية ردود فعل واسعة على منصات التواصل.
The Los Angeles Police Department released a video documenting dramatic moments before they shot a man of Indian descent, named Gurpreet Singh (35 years old), fatally wounding him after he threatened passersby with a large "machete" in downtown Los Angeles.
According to the police, Singh suddenly stopped his car in the middle of a busy intersection between Figueroa and Olympic streets, and began waving a machete approximately 60 cm long in an aggressive manner, threatening pedestrians.
The police initiated a short chase after Singh collided with one of their vehicles, leading officers to stop him at another intersection. As they approached, he exited the vehicle and ran towards them wielding the machete, prompting the officers to open fire on him.
Singh was immediately transported to the hospital, but later died from his injuries.
The police confirmed that the weapon used in the crime—a two-foot-long machete—was found at the scene, and no officers or civilians were injured during the incident.
An investigation is still ongoing to determine the motives behind the incident, while the video posted on the police department's official channel has sparked widespread reactions on social media.
