خرج الرئيس الفرنسي إيمانويل ماكرون عن صمته ليرد على الادعاءات الكاذبة التي طالت زوجته، السيدة الأولى بريجيت ماكرون، والتي زعمت أنها وُلدت ذكرًا، كاشفًا عن دوافعه لمواجهة هذه الشائعات التي انتشرت على نطاق واسع، خاصة في الولايات المتحدة، بعد أن تجاهلها لفترة طويلة.

وقال ماكرون في حوار أجرته معه مجلة «باريس ماتش» الفرنسية، إنه «كان هناك تقليدٌ يقول: دع الأمر يمر، هذا ما فعلناه في البداية، كان ذلك في فرنسا، نُصحنا بعدم تقديم شكوى، كان هذا يُهدد بإثارة ما يُسمى بتأثير سترايساند، الذي يُسلط الضوء على هذه الأكاذيب».

وأوضح ماكرون أن انتشار هذه الادعاءات في الولايات المتحدة، خاصة من خلال منصات إعلامية مثل بودكاست المعلقة اليمينية كانديس أوينز بعنوان «Becoming Brigitte»، دفع الزوجين إلى اتخاذ إجراء قانوني، مضيفًا أن: «انتشارها في الولايات المتحدة جعلنا نضطر للرد، الأمر يتعلق بالحفاظ على الحقيقة».
وفي دفاعه عن زوجته، أكد ماكرون أن هذه الهجمات تستهدف ليس فقط هويتها كـ«زوجة وأم وجدة»، بل تمس كرامة عائلتهما، مشيرًا إلى أن «ليس من حرية التعبير أن نسعى لمنع ظهور الحقيقة»، كما وجه نقدًا لاذعًا للمدافعين عن حرية التعبير في الولايات المتحدة، قائلًا: «أولئك الذين يُحدثونك عمّا يُسمى بحرية التعبير هم من يمنعون الصحفيين من دخول المكتب البيضاوي، أنا لا أقبل ذلك».
وتأتي تعليقات ماكرون بعد أن رفع هو وزوجته دعوى تشهير في يوليو الماضي ضد أوينز في محكمة ديلاوير العليا، متهمين إياها بشن «حملة إذلال عالمية» من خلال نشر ادعاءات كاذبة، بما في ذلك أن بريجيت وُلدت باسم شقيقها الأكبر، جان ميشيل تروغنو، حيث تصف الدعوى تصريحات أوينز بأنها «أكاذيب مدمرة» تهدف إلى تعزيز شهرتها ومنصتها.

Macron explained that the spread of these allegations in the United States, especially through media platforms like the right-wing podcaster Candace Owens' podcast titled "Becoming Brigitte," prompted the couple to take legal action, adding that: "Their spread in the United States forced us to respond; it’s about preserving the truth."
In defending his wife, Macron emphasized that these attacks target not only her identity as a "wife, mother, and grandmother," but also touch upon the dignity of their family, noting that "it is not freedom of expression to seek to prevent the truth from coming out," and he sharply criticized advocates of free speech in the United States, saying: "Those who talk to you about so-called freedom of expression are the ones who prevent journalists from entering the Oval Office; I do not accept that."
Macron's comments come after he and his wife filed a defamation lawsuit last July against Owens in Delaware Superior Court, accusing her of launching a "global humiliation campaign" by spreading false claims, including that Brigitte was born under her older brother's name, Jean-Michel Trogneux, with the lawsuit describing Owens' statements as "damaging lies" aimed at boosting her fame and platform.
While Owens responded by claiming that the lawsuit aims to "intimidate" free speech, Macron insisted that his goal is to restore the truth and protect his family's dignity, as the legal complaint indicated that Owens ignored requests to retract the allegations three times, prompting the couple to take legal action.
The rumors about Brigitte Macron's gender began in 2021 when extremist groups in France, including supporters of anti-vaccine movements and "QAnon," spread false claims on social media, and these rumors later spread in the United States, where they were amplified through Owens' podcast, which garnered over 2.3 million views on YouTube.
In France, Brigitte and her brother Jean-Michel Trogneux won a defamation case in September 2024 against two women who published these allegations, but the Paris Court of Appeal overturned the ruling in July 2025, considering the claims to fall within freedom of expression. Brigitte has appealed this decision to the French Supreme Court, as this case illustrates the legal challenges public figures face in confronting defamation.
