في حادثة غريبة بمطار جوسيب تاراديلاس برشلونة-إل برات، ترك زوجان ابنهما البالغ من العمر 10 سنوات وحيداً في صالة المطار بعد اكتشاف أن جواز سفره الإسباني منتهي الصلاحية ويفتقر إلى تأشيرة السفر المطلوبة.
وقعت الحادثة أثناء استعداد العائلة، المكونة من الوالدين وطفلين، للسفر إلى المغرب لقضاء عطلة.
وبدلاً من تأجيل الرحلة، قرر الوالدان مواصلة السفر مع طفلهما الآخر، تاركين الابن الأكبر في المطار بعد الاتصال بأحد الأقارب لاصطحابه.
واكتشفت الشرطة الكتالونية الطفل يتجول بمفرده، وبعد فشل النداءات الداخلية في المطار لتحديد مكان الوالدين، تبين أنهما صعدا بالفعل إلى الطائرة المتجهة إلى الدار البيضاء.
وأوقفت السلطات الطائرة لاستجواب الوالدين، اللذين بررا تصرفهما بأنه طبيعي بسبب مشكلة التأشيرة.
وتم نقل الوالدين والطفل الآخر إلى مركز الشرطة في المطار، حيث يواجهان تهمة هجر الطفل، إلى جانب التسبب في تأخير الرحلة، وظل الطفل تحت الرعاية المؤقتة لحين وصول أحد الأقارب.
وتُجري السلطات تحقيقاً مع الخدمات الاجتماعية لتحديد العقوبات المناسبة على الوالدين، فيما أثارت الحادثة جدلاً واسعاً حول مسؤولية الآباء وضرورة التحقق من وثائق السفر مسبقاً.
