نظّم عدد من موظفي مايكروسوفت الحاليين والسابقين مظاهرة واسعة في قلب الحرم الشرقي لمقر الشركة في سياتل، اعتراضًا على العقود التي تربط الشركة بالجيش الإسرائيلي، وفق ما أفادت منظمة «لا أزور للفصل العنصري». وأقام المتظاهرون خيامًا ونقاط حوار داخل الساحة التي أطلقوا عليها اسم «ساحة أطفال فلسطين الشهداء»، مطالبين بقطع جميع العقود المشتركة مع الجيش الإسرائيلي وتعويض الفلسطينيين المتضررين.
وجاءت المظاهرة بعد تقرير نشرته صحيفة «غارديان» كشف تعاون الشركة مع الوحدة 8200 في الجيش الإسرائيلي لمراقبة الفلسطينيين عبر تخزين المكالمات والرسائل النصية. وحمل المشاركون لافتات تعبر عن رفضهم لاستخدام أعمالهم في ما وصفوه بـ«إبادة غزة»، وأشاروا إلى اغتيال الصحفيين كأحد المحركات الرئيسية للتحرك، إذ أكد الموظفون أنهم استلهموا الدعوة إلى عدم السكوت أمام القيود والحدود.
واستمرت المظاهرة نحو ساعتين، قبل أن تطلب الشركة من المتظاهرين مغادرة الحرم بعد وصول الشرطة، فيما أكدت مايكروسوفت أنها تجري تحقيقات داخلية لمراجعة المستندات وملفات الموظفين ذات الصلة بالقضية.
A number of current and former Microsoft employees organized a large demonstration in the heart of the eastern campus of the company in Seattle, protesting the contracts that link the company to the Israeli military, according to the organization "No Azzur for Apartheid." The demonstrators set up tents and discussion points in the area they named "Palestinian Martyrs' Children Square," demanding the termination of all joint contracts with the Israeli army and compensation for the affected Palestinians.
The demonstration followed a report published by the "Guardian" newspaper revealing the company's collaboration with Unit 8200 in the Israeli army to monitor Palestinians by storing calls and text messages. Participants carried signs expressing their rejection of using their work in what they described as "the genocide of Gaza," and pointed to the assassination of journalists as one of the main drivers for the movement, as employees confirmed they were inspired by the call to not remain silent in the face of restrictions and boundaries.
The demonstration lasted about two hours before the company requested the demonstrators to leave the campus after the police arrived, while Microsoft confirmed that it is conducting internal investigations to review the documents and employee files related to the issue.
