In a tragic incident that shook public opinion in Turkey, an officer killed his wife and two children with his weapon before committing suicide, according to Turkish media reports today (Friday). Officer Joshkun Suyilmaz (35 years old) killed his 33-year-old wife, his 7-year-old son, and his 2-year-old daughter before taking his own life. The mother and her children were sleeping at her mother's house in Denizli, southwestern Turkey, when the father attacked them.
Turkish media reported that the officer was on leave with his family and had come three days ago from his security job in Şırnak province in southern Turkey to his mother-in-law's house, where his family was staying while waiting to move to a home near his workplace.
The mother of the wife called for help when she heard gunfire in her daughter's room and her grandchildren's, prompting the police and ambulance to arrive and find them deceased, while the officer died during his transport to the hospital.
Turkish news sites revealed that the officer was in debt for an amount ranging between 6 and 7 million Turkish lira (150,000 to 175,000 dollars) and was unable to borrow money to pay off the debt. It was suggested that the officer, who married in 2017, had been suffering from depression in recent times due to financial debts resulting from his real estate business.
