هاجم أسد رجل أعمال ألماني الجنسية وافترسه حتى الموت في حادثة مرعبة وقعت شمال غرب ناميبيا، أثناء قضائه عطلة برفقة زوجته وأصدقائه في أحد المخيمات السياحية الفاخرة.
ووفقاً لما أفادت به وزارة البيئة الناميبية، وقع الهجوم المميت في منطقة «سيسفونتين» القريبة من مخيم «هوانيب سكيلتون كوست»، حينما خرج الضحية، بيرند كيبيل، من خيمته ليستخدم المرحاض.
وفور خروجه من الخيمة، باغته الأسد وانقض عليه، ولم تفلح محاولات زملائه في طرد الحيوان المفترس إلا بعد فوات الأوان، حيث كان الرجل قد فارق الحياة متأثراً بجراحه.
من جهتها، أكدت المتحدثة باسم وزارة البيئة الناميبية، أن الهجوم كان سريعاً ومباغتاً، ولم يكن هناك وقت كافٍ لإنقاذ الضحية، مشيرة إلى أن فريقاً من الشرطة حضر إلى الموقع فور وقوع الحادثة، وبدأ في جمع المعلومات لإعداد تقرير شامل سيتم تسليمه لاحقاً.
وفي تطور جديد، أعلنت السلطات الناميبية أنه تم قتل الأسد المسؤول عن الهجوم بعد يومين من الحادثة، وذلك عقب تقييمه باعتباره تهديداً متكرّراً لكل من السكان المحليين والسياح.
ويُعد بيرند كيبيل شخصية معروفة في ناميبيا، حيث كان ناشطاً في مجالات الأعمال الخيرية وحماية الحياة البرية، كما أنه كان يملك شركة «Off-Road-Centre» المتخصصة في تجهيز سيارات السفاري، ما جعل وفاته صدمة مزدوجة في الأوساط البيئية والسياحية على حد سواء.
يُذكر أن المنطقة التي وقعت فيها الحادثة تُعرف بتواجد عدد من الأسود الصحراوية، التي تتجول بحرية في تضاريسها الوعرة.
A lion attacked a German businessman and mauled him to death in a terrifying incident that occurred in northwestern Namibia while he was on vacation with his wife and friends at a luxury tourist camp.
According to the Namibian Ministry of Environment, the fatal attack took place in the "Sesfontein" area near the "Huanib Skeleton Coast" camp when the victim, Bernd Kiebel, exited his tent to use the restroom.
As soon as he left the tent, the lion ambushed him, and his companions' attempts to scare off the predator were unsuccessful until it was too late, as the man had succumbed to his injuries.
For her part, the spokesperson for the Namibian Ministry of Environment confirmed that the attack was swift and unexpected, and there was not enough time to save the victim, noting that a police team arrived at the site immediately after the incident and began gathering information to prepare a comprehensive report that will be submitted later.
In a new development, Namibian authorities announced that the lion responsible for the attack was killed two days after the incident, following an assessment that deemed it a recurring threat to both local residents and tourists.
Bernd Kiebel was a well-known figure in Namibia, being active in charitable work and wildlife protection, and he owned the "Off-Road-Centre" company, which specializes in outfitting safari vehicles, making his death a double shock in both environmental and tourism circles.
It is worth noting that the area where the incident occurred is known for the presence of several desert lions that roam freely across its rugged terrain.
