He did not write with a pen, but with metal, and made a door of gold that leads to majesty. Ahmad Ibrahim Badr, son of Mecca and the craftsman of the Kaaba's door, and the head of its artisans for more than 35 years, has his name etched in the joints of Meccan history, where gold is shaped for sanctification, and art becomes a virtue.
Born in 1349 AH (1920 AD), he inherited the profession from his father, the master goldsmith, combining craftsmanship with sincerity of intent. He crafted the door of the Kaaba, which was commissioned by King Khalid – may God have mercy on him – in 1399 AH, oversaw the installation of the Black Stone's frame, and took on the creation of the Tawbā (repentance) inside the Kaaba, making his hands witnesses to the finest details of reverence.
His family, the Badr family, became a reference in the crafting of royal gifts, including jewelry, swords, and ornaments, but Ahmad was the most prominent... because he created something that is not given as a gift, but is sanctified: the door of the Kaaba.
He passed away in 1430 AH (2009 AD), but he remains in the gold that the pilgrims see every day, and in the history of Mecca that cannot be erased.
