حقق خليفة العميري، لاعب المنتخب السعودي للمبارزة، إنجازاً تاريخياً بحصوله على الميدالية البرونزية في سلاح الابيه، ضمن بطولة العالم (عمومي) للمبارزة التي اختتمت اليوم في هونغ كونغ، ليمنح المملكة أول ميدالية في تاريخ مشاركاتها ببطولات العالم للمبارزة، ويجعل السعودية ثاني دولة عربية على مستوى الرجال تحقق ميدالية عالمية بعد مصر.
وكان العميري قد تأهل للدور الـ32 بعد أن تجاوز فلافيو جيانوت لاعب منتخب لوكسمبورغ في الدور الـ64، وتأهل لدور الـ16 بعد أن أقصى الكوري هيومن جانغ في دور الـ32، وفاز على الإيطالي سيمون مينكاريلي في دور الـ16، ليكسب الياباني كوكي كانو بطل أولمبياد باريس وصاحب 3 ميداليات أولمبية، بنتيجة 15/12 في دور الـ8، ليواصل مشواره ويحقق الميدالية البرونزية بعد مواجهة السويسري لوكاس مالكوتي.
وأهدى العميري هذا الإنجاز إلى خادم الحرمين الشريفين وولي العهد، وإلى الوطن، وقدم شكره لرئيس اللجنة الأولمبية والبارالمبية السعودية الأمير عبدالعزيز بن تركي على دعمه الكبير، ولأسرة المبارزة وكل من وقف معه، واعتبر الميدالية البرونزية بداية لإنجازات أكبر.
فيما هنأ رئيس الاتحاد السعودي للمبارزة الدكتور واسم آل حسن القيادة الرشيدة بهذا الإنجاز، واللجنة الأولمبية، ووصفها بأنها محطة مهمة في مسيرة المبارزة السعودية، وثمرة للدعم الكبير الذي تحظى به الرياضة السعودية، وأكد أنه الإنجاز الثالث للاعب العميري خلال عام واحد بعد أن حقق فضية دورة الألعاب الخليجية، وبرونزية دورة الألعاب الإسلامية، مؤكداً تطلّعهم إلى مواصلة تحقيق الإنجازات ورفع اسم المملكة في المحافل العالمية.
Khalifa Al-Omari, a player of the Saudi national fencing team, achieved a historic milestone by winning the bronze medal in the épée event at the World Championship (Senior) in fencing, which concluded today in Hong Kong. This victory grants the Kingdom its first medal in the history of its participation in World Fencing Championships, making Saudi Arabia the second Arab country at the men's level to win a world medal after Egypt.
Al-Omari qualified for the Round of 32 after defeating Flavio Gianotti from the Luxembourg team in the Round of 64. He advanced to the Round of 16 after eliminating Korean Hee-mun Jang in the Round of 32, and won against Italian Simone Mincarelli in the Round of 16. He then triumphed over Japanese Olympic champion Koki Kano, who has three Olympic medals, with a score of 15/12 in the quarter-finals, continuing his journey to secure the bronze medal after facing Swiss Lucas Malcotti.
Al-Omari dedicated this achievement to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince, as well as to the nation. He expressed his gratitude to the President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki, for his significant support, and to the fencing family and everyone who stood by him. He considered the bronze medal as the beginning of even greater achievements.
Meanwhile, the President of the Saudi Fencing Federation, Dr. Wasim Al-Hassan, congratulated the wise leadership on this achievement and the Olympic Committee, describing it as an important milestone in the journey of Saudi fencing and a result of the substantial support that Saudi sports receive. He confirmed that this is the third achievement for Al-Omari within a year, after winning a silver medal at the Gulf Games and a bronze medal at the Islamic Games, emphasizing their aspiration to continue achieving successes and raising the Kingdom's name in global arenas.
