أثار احتفال نجم برشلونة الشاب لامين يامال بعيد ميلاده الـ18 استياء جمعية الأشخاص المصابين بالتقزم Adee، لتصدر بياناً شديد اللهجة أدانت فيه الاستعانة بأشخاص من ذوي القزامة كجزء من الترفيه في حفل جمال، وجاء في البيان: «خلال الاحتفال بعيد ميلاد لامين يامال، تم توظيف عدد من الأشخاص من ذوي القزامة لأداء أدوار ترفيهية دون هدف سوى جذب الانتباه، وهو أمر غير مقبول ويغذي الصور النمطية ويقوض الحقوق الإنسانية الأساسية».
لتشير الجمعية الى أن مثل هذه الممارسات مخالفة صريحة للقانون العام لحقوق الأشخاص ذوي الإعاقة، الذي يحظر استخدامهم في أنشطة ترفيهية تعرضهم للسخرية أو الاستهزاء، لتعتبر رئيسة الجمعية كارولينا بوينتي أنه من غير المقبول أن يتم استخدام ذوي القزامة كوسيلة ترفيهية في القرن الحادي والعشرين، والأمر يصبح أكثر خطورة عندما يكون مرتبطاً بشخصيات عامة مثل لامين يامال، وأن هذه الممارسات تنقل رسالة خاطئة، مفادها أن التمييز أمر مقبول، خاصة بين فئة الشباب.
يذكر أن بعض الدول، مثل كندا، تجرّم هذا النوع من الأنشطة ما لم تتم بموافقة الشخص المعني، في حين يعتبر في دول أخرى مثل بريطانيا أمراً غير أخلاقي رغم عدم وجود حظر رسمي.
وكان البرلمان الإسباني قد صوت في عام 2023 لصالح حظر عروض مصارعة الثيران التي يشارك فيها أشخاص من قصار القامة، في خطوة لاقت ترحيباً من منظمات حقوقية.

The statement read: “During the celebration of Lamine Yamal's birthday, a number of people with dwarfism were employed to perform entertainment roles with no purpose other than to attract attention, which is unacceptable and fuels stereotypes while undermining basic human rights.” The association pointed out that such practices are a clear violation of the general law on the rights of persons with disabilities, which prohibits their use in entertainment activities that expose them to ridicule or mockery. The president of the association, Carolina Puente, stated that it is unacceptable to use people with dwarfism as a form of entertainment in the 21st century, and the situation becomes even more serious when it is associated with public figures like Lamine Yamal. These practices convey a wrong message, suggesting that discrimination is acceptable, especially among young people.
It is noted that some countries, like Canada, criminalize this type of activity unless it is done with the consent of the person involved, while in other countries like the UK, it is considered unethical despite the lack of an official ban.
