The Italian Simone Inzaghi, coach of Al-Hilal, expressed his complete satisfaction with his team's performance against Al-Ahli UAE, confirming that the blue team has taken an important step in the tournament, which he prioritizes this season.
Inzaghi said in a special interview with "Okaz": "We dominated the match, we did not give the opponent any real chance to threaten our goal. The most important thing is that we have taken a step forward in a tournament that we care about a lot, and what really made me happy was seeing our fans leave happily."
In the press conference, Inzaghi praised the discipline of his players: "We played a smart match, we avoided unnecessary risks and maintained our balance. All the players deserve congratulations."
Why did he substitute while satisfied?
The Italian coach justified his many substitutions by the circumstances of the match and the pressure of the schedule: "Some of those I substituted were doing well, but the circumstances of the match dictated other decisions. Substituting does not mean dissatisfaction. The frequent travel and matches force us to rotate, and today I received an excellent response."
Absences are the secret of doubled happiness
Inzaghi revealed that the victory came despite a long list of absences: "We missed Ruben Neves, Martinelli, and Salem. We made extensive changes, so my happiness is doubled. The players who did not participate much delivered a wonderful performance and proved that everyone is ready."
Regarding the return of the injured players, he reassured Al-Hilal fans: "I expect Salem, Martinelli, and a third player to return after the break. The postponement of the match against Al-Ettifaq will give us extra time to prepare. Neves will only miss the first match after the resumption due to suspension, and the rest of the names will be ready."
From 4-4-2 to three defenders
On the tactical front, Inzaghi explained his philosophy: "I started with four defenders because I wanted clear strikers inside the box, but the formation was not rigid. At times we shifted to three defenders with Dall and Moreno advancing and adjusting Al-Bulaihi's role, and at other times we returned to four with Dall advancing and Al-Bulaihi taking the right-back position. This diversity is what we work on to create solutions."
He concluded: "We are working hard in training, and we still have a large margin for improvement, and I am the first to demand that. However, what the starters and substitutes showed today confirms that we are on the right track, and the happiness of the fans is the biggest motivation to continue."
