أكد المدير التنفيذي لفريق عمل كأس العالم 2026 التابع للبيت الأبيض أندرو جولياني، أن الولايات المتحدة قد تترشح لاستضافة كأس العالم للرجال 2038.
وتستضيف الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وكندا والمكسيك النسخة الحالية من كأس العالم (مونديال 2026)، بينما ستقام نسخة 2030 في المغرب والبرتغال وإسبانيا، على أن تُقام نسخة 2034 في السعودية.
توسع مُحتمل في عدد المنتخبات
وتقام النسخة الحالية من كأس العالم بمشاركة 48 منتخباً لأول مرة في تاريخ البطولة، فيما يدرس الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم «فيفا» توسيع النظام ليشمل 64 منتخباً بحلول عام 2030.
أمريكا قادرة على استضافة 64 منتخباً
وقال جولياني، في تصريحات نقلتها شبكة «BBC»: «عندما تفكر في أن كأس العالم قد يتوسع في مرحلة ما ليشمل 64 فريقاً، أعتقد أن الولايات المتحدة قادرة على التعامل مع ذلك».
التركيز أولاً على مونديال 2026
وأضاف: «دعوني أتأكد أولاً من أننا سنتجاوز كأس العالم الحالي في 19 يوليو، قبل أن نطرح عرضنا لاستضافة كأس العالم 2038 أو غيرها من البطولات».
مناقشات مع ترمب
وتابع جولياني أنه تحدث مع الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب حول قدرة الولايات المتحدة على استضافة كأس العالم مرة أخرى.
ثقة في البنية التحتية
وواصل حديثه: «لا يوجد بلد أفضل من الولايات المتحدة لاستضافة كأس العالم، وأعتقد أننا نرى ذلك على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي، كما نراه من خلال جميع المشجعين الذين يتفاعلون مع الولايات المتحدة لأول مرة، أو لأول مرة منذ فترة طويلة، الولايات المتحدة مرحبة للغاية، ولدينا بنية تحتية رائعة».
الملاعب جاهزة والتكاليف أقل
وختم: «لقد بنينا الملاعب، لذا، مقارنة بالدول المضيفة الأخرى التي تنفق عشرات المليارات من الدولارات، كلّفنا الأمر بضعة مليارات فقط، ومن الرائع حقاً أن نرى حب العالم للولايات المتحدة الأمريكية خلال احتفالنا بالذكرى الـ250 لتأسيسها، لقد كان ذلك أمراً مُرضياً للغاية».
The Executive Director of the World Cup 2026 team affiliated with the White House, Andrew Giuliani, confirmed that the United States may bid to host the men's World Cup in 2038.
The United States, Canada, and Mexico are hosting the current edition of the World Cup (World Cup 2026), while the 2030 edition will be held in Morocco, Portugal, and Spain, and the 2034 edition will take place in Saudi Arabia.
Potential Expansion in the Number of Teams
The current edition of the World Cup features 48 teams for the first time in the tournament's history, while FIFA is considering expanding the system to include 64 teams by 2030.
America Capable of Hosting 64 Teams
Giuliani stated in comments reported by the BBC: "When you think about the World Cup potentially expanding at some point to include 64 teams, I believe the United States is capable of handling that."
Focus First on World Cup 2026
He added: "Let me make sure first that we get through the current World Cup on July 19, before we put forward our bid to host the 2038 World Cup or any other tournaments."
Discussions with Trump
Giuliani continued that he spoke with President Donald Trump about the United States' ability to host the World Cup again.
Confidence in Infrastructure
He went on to say: "There is no country better than the United States to host the World Cup, and I think we see that on social media, as we see from all the fans interacting with the United States for the first time, or for the first time in a long time. The United States is very welcoming, and we have great infrastructure."
Stadiums Ready and Costs Lower
He concluded: "We have built the stadiums, so compared to other host countries that spend tens of billions of dollars, it has cost us just a few billion, and it’s really wonderful to see the world's love for the United States during our celebration of the 250th anniversary of its founding; it has been very satisfying."
