شهد الدوري المالديفي الممتاز واقعة مثيرة للجدل بعدما ضمن نادي غرين ستريتس بقاءه في الدرجة الأولى إثر انسحابه من مباراته الأخيرة أمام نيو راديانت بداعي «تفشي الإسهال» بين لاعبيه، ما أدى إلى هبوط نادي فالنسيا رغم فوزه في الجولة الختامية.
ووفق لوائح الاتحاد المالديفي لكرة القدم، عوقب غرين ستريتس باعتباره خاسرًا (0-2)، وهي نتيجة كانت كافية لإبقائه في الدوري الممتاز بفارق الأهداف، خصوصاً مع تساويه في النقاط مع منافسه فريق فالنسيا.
وكان فريق فالنسيا قد خاص مباراته في الجولة الأخيرة أولاً وكسبها بنتيجة (2-0) وأصبح يتعين على فريق غرين ستريتس مواجهة فريق نيو راديانت الفريق القوي جداً وتجنب الخسارة أمامه بفارق 4 أهداف أو أكثر، ليقرر الانسحاب حتى يخسر بفارق هدفين فقط ويضمن البقاء بحسب اللوائح.
وفرض الاتحاد غرامة مالية على النادي ومنعه من التعاقدات الصيفية، لكنه أبقى على النتيجة والترتيب دون تعديل.
فالنسيا اعتبر الانسحاب متعمدًا، وأعلن عزمه تصعيد القضية إلى الاتحاد الآسيوي لكرة القدم و «الفيفا»، خاصة بعدما خاض غرين ستريتس بعد أيام قليلة مباراة في كأس الرئيس بتشكيلة شبه مكتملة، ما زاد الشكوك حول حقيقة الأزمة الصحية. القضية أثارت جدلًا واسعًا حول العدالة الرياضية وشفافية القرارات في الكرة المالديفية.

According to the regulations of the Maldivian Football Association, Green Streets was penalized as a loser (0-2), a result that was enough to keep them in the Premier League on goal difference, especially since they were tied on points with their competitor, Valencia.
Valencia had played their final round match first and won it 2-0, and Green Streets had to face the very strong New Radiant team and avoid losing by 4 goals or more. They decided to withdraw to ensure they only lost by two goals and thus secure their stay according to the regulations.
The association imposed a financial penalty on the club and banned them from summer signings, but kept the result and standings unchanged.
