يتطلع منتخبا عُمان وقطر إلى تحقيق انطلاقة قوية عندما يتواجهان عند تمام الساعة السادسة من مساء غد الأربعاء على استاد جاسم بن حمد ضمن الجولة الأولى من منافسات المجموعة الأولى في ملحق التصفيات الآسيوية – الطريق إلى كأس العالم 2026.
ومع وجود بطاقة تأهل مباشرة واحدة فقط إلى نهائيات كأس العالم القادمة، سيدخل المنتخبان المواجهة بعزيمة كبيرة لتقديم أداء يؤكد طموحهما في المنافسة، في حين تترقب الإمارات، ثالث فرق المجموعة، فرصتها في بلوغ الحدث العالمي العام القادم.
ويسعى المنتخب العُماني إلى تحقيق تأهل تاريخي لأول مرة إلى نهائيات كأس العالم، تحت قيادة المدرب البرتغالي المخضرم كارلوس كيروش، الذي ركّز منذ توليه المهمة في يوليو الماضي على تطوير التنظيم التكتيكي والانضباط الدفاعي للفريق.
ويعوّل كيروش مجدداً على المهاجم عصام الصبحي لقيادة الخط الأمامي، إذ يعيش اللاعب البالغ من العمر 28 عاماً فترة مميزة بعد تسجيله ثلاثة أهداف في آخر أربع مباريات مع المنتخب، كما تمكن الصبحي من إحراز ثنائية في آخر مواجهة أمام قطر، وهي المباراة التي انتهت بفوز عُمان (2-1) في كأس الخليج 2024، ما يمنح المنتخب دافعاً معنوياً كبيراً قبل هذه المواجهة.
في المقابل، لا يزال المنتخب القطري بقيادة المدرب الإسباني جولين لوبيتيغي يبحث عن ثبات المستوى، بعدما حقق فوزاً واحداً فقط في أربع مباريات منذ توليه القيادة الفنية في مايو الماضي، ورغم البداية المتباينة التي شملت خسارتين وديتين أمام لبنان (0-1) وروسيا (1-4) وتعادلاً مع البحرين (2-2)، فإن المنتخب القطري يدرك صعوبة المهمة أمام خصم يمتلك سجلاً متقارباً في المواجهات الأخيرة بين المنتخبين، حيث انتهت ثلاثة لقاءات سابقة بفوز لكل منهما وتعادل واحد، وسيعتمد لوبيتيغي على المهاجم المعز علي لتسجيل الأهداف، إلى جانب أكرم عفيف الذي يُعدّ مصدر الإبداع الهجومي وصانع اللعب الأبرز، مع تطلع المنتخب القطري لتقديم أداء مقنع في أولى مبارياته ضمن المجموعة.
وتقام الجولة الثانية من منافسات المجموعة يوم السبت، حيث تلتقي الإمارات مع عُمان، على أن تشهد الجولة الثالثة والأخيرة يوم الثلاثاء القادم لقاء قطر مع الإمارات.
ويتأهل إلى نهائيات كأس العالم صاحب المركز الأول في كل من المجموعتين الأولى والثانية، على أن ينتقل المنتخبان الحاصلان على المركز الثاني من أجل خوض الدور الإقصائي من ملحق التصفيات الآسيوية، لتحديد الفريق المتأهل إلى الملحق العالمي.

The Oman and Qatar national teams are looking to make a strong start when they face each other at exactly 6 PM tomorrow, Wednesday, at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium as part of the first round of the group stage in the Asian qualifiers – the road to the 2026 World Cup.
With only one direct qualification spot available for the upcoming World Cup finals, both teams will enter the match with great determination to deliver a performance that reflects their ambitions in the competition, while the UAE, the third team in the group, awaits its chance to reach the global event next year.
The Omani team is striving for a historic qualification to the World Cup finals for the first time, under the guidance of experienced Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz, who has focused since taking over in July on developing the team's tactical organization and defensive discipline.
Queiroz is once again relying on striker Issam Al-Sabhi to lead the front line, as the 28-year-old player is enjoying a remarkable period after scoring three goals in the last four matches with the national team. Al-Sabhi also managed to score a brace in the last encounter against Qatar, a match that ended with Oman winning (2-1) in the Gulf Cup 2024, which gives the team a significant morale boost ahead of this match.
On the other hand, the Qatari team, led by Spanish coach Julen Lopetegui, is still searching for consistency, having achieved only one victory in four matches since he took over in May. Despite a mixed start that included two friendly losses against Lebanon (0-1) and Russia (1-4), and a draw with Bahrain (2-2), the Qatari team is aware of the difficulty of the task against an opponent with a similar record in their recent encounters, where three previous matches ended with one win for each team and one draw. Lopetegui will rely on striker Almoez Ali to score goals, alongside Akram Afif, who is considered the main source of attacking creativity and playmaking, as the Qatari team looks to deliver a convincing performance in its first match in the group.
The second round of group matches will take place on Saturday, where the UAE will meet Oman, and the third and final round will see Qatar face the UAE next Tuesday.
The team that finishes first in each of the two groups will qualify for the World Cup finals, while the teams that finish second will advance to the knockout round of the Asian qualifiers to determine the team that qualifies for the global playoff.
