خطف المنتخب الايراني لكرة السلة المركز الثالث في بطولة كأس آسيا المقامة حاليا في المملكة العربية السعودية، بعد أن تخطى منتخب نيوزيلندا في مباراة تحديد المركزين الثالث والرابع بنتيجة 79-73.
المنتخب الإيراني الذي خسر في نصف النهائي أمام أستراليا بفارق كبير تفوق في الربع الأول 28-20 وواصل تألقه ووسع الفارق مع نهاية الشوط الأول إلى 14 نقطة 47-33.
في الربع الثالث عاد المنتخب النيوزيلندي وحاول تقليص الفارق وأنهى الربع الثالث متفوقاً 21-19.
وبدأ الربع الأخير بشكل مميز للمنتخب النيوزيلندي وأعاد للأذهان «الريمونتادا» الكبيرة التي قام بها أمام منتخب لبنان في ربع النهائي واستطاع تقليص الفارق إلى 3 نقاط إلا أن المنتخب الإيراني استطاع إنهاء الأمور لمصلحته بنتيجة 79-73 وخطف المركز الثالث.

The Iranian national basketball team snatched third place in the Asian Cup currently held in Saudi Arabia, after defeating New Zealand in the match for third and fourth place with a score of 79-73.
The Iranian team, which lost in the semifinals to Australia by a large margin, excelled in the first quarter 28-20 and continued to shine, widening the gap by the end of the first half to 14 points, 47-33.
In the third quarter, the New Zealand team returned and tried to reduce the gap, finishing the third quarter ahead 21-19.
The final quarter started impressively for the New Zealand team, reminiscent of the great "remontada" they achieved against the Lebanese team in the quarterfinals, managing to cut the deficit to 3 points.
