ويدين منتخب جواتيمالا بهذا الانتصار للاعبه أوسكار سانتيز، الذي سجل هدف اللقاء الوحيد في الدقيقة 32، في حين لم يتمكن منتخب جامايكا من تعديل النتيجة خلال ما تبقى من عمر المباراة التي أُقيمت مساء الإثنين بالتوقيت المحلي (صباح الثلاثاء بتوقيت غرينتش).
وبهذا الفوز، حصد منتخب جواتيمالا أول ثلاث نقاط له في المجموعة، ليحل في المركز الثاني بفارق الأهداف خلف منتخب بنما، الذي تصدّر الترتيب بعد فوزه الكبير 5-2 على جوادلوب في افتتاح مباريات المجموعة.
في المقابل، ظل منتخب جامايكا دون رصيد من النقاط، مما يضعه تحت ضغط لتحقيق نتيجة إيجابية في مواجهته المقبلة ضد جوادلوب، من أجل الحفاظ على آماله في التأهل إلى الأدوار الإقصائية.
كما ستشهد الجولة الثانية من المجموعة لقاءً حاسمًا بين جواتيمالا وبنما، حيث يسعى كل منهما للانفراد بصدارة الترتيب. وتُقام البطولة بمشاركة منتخبات اتحاد أمريكا الشمالية والوسطى والكاريبي لكرة القدم (كونكاكاف)، إلى جانب منتخب السعودية الذي يشارك في المنافسات كمنتخب ضيف.
