Explosions that shook several locations in southern Iran coincided with an American escalation in the waters of the Gulf of Oman, after Washington announced the disabling of a cargo ship that attempted to breach the maritime blockade imposed on Tehran, while diplomatic efforts through Qatar continue to bridge the gaps regarding the nuclear file, amidst both sides' insistence on their conditions to end the war.
Iranian media reported on Saturday that explosions were heard in Bandar Abbas, Jask, Sirik, and Qeshm Island in Hormozgan Province in the south of the country. The Iranian news agency quoted official sources confirming that a strike targeted a site in Jask, without disclosing the nature of the site or the extent of the damage.
In a maritime escalation, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the disabling of the cargo ship "Huda" (M/V Huda), which flies the flag of Saint Kitts, in the Gulf of Oman, after its crew ignored repeated warnings and attempted to breach the maritime blockade imposed on Iran.
It clarified that a U.S. military aircraft fired precision-guided munitions at the stern of the ship, leading to its disabling, after the crew was informed of the need to evacuate the targeted areas. It added that the ship had visited an Iranian port before attempting to leave the territorial waters.
On the diplomatic front, two government officials in the Middle East revealed to the Associated Press on Friday that Iran is considering proposals put forward by Qatar, the main mediator, to address the disagreements with the United States regarding its nuclear program.
One of the officials explained that Tehran still refuses to enter into nuclear negotiations with the administration of President Donald Trump, before Washington agrees to fundamental demands that Iran wants to include in any ceasefire agreement.
In contrast, Trump insists on including a resolution of the nuclear file in any agreement that ends the war, which has been ongoing for more than eight months, reflecting the continued fundamental disagreements between the two sides, despite Qatari efforts aimed at reconciling positions and reaching a settlement.
