In implementation of the state's decision to prohibit carrying weapons, the internal security forces affiliated with the Syrian Ministry of Interior spread today (Tuesday) in the streets of the city of Hasakah.
The Hasakah Media Directorate announced through its official channels the commencement of the internal security directorate units' field deployment in the streets of the city, in execution of the decision to prohibit carrying weapons and roaming with them, and to ban shooting for any reason.
It added that the deployment is part of the implementation of the decision and the preservation of security, public order, and the safety of citizens, as well as limiting manifestations of chaos and instances of terrorizing the residents.
Yesterday (Monday), the internal security directorate in the city of Hasakah issued a decision prohibiting the carrying of weapons and roaming with them inside the city, and banning shooting for any reason, based on its responsibility to maintain security and public order and to protect the lives and property of citizens. The directorate clarified in a statement that weapons are exclusively in the hands of the state, represented by official security and military forces, while performing their official duties only. It confirmed that anyone who violates this decision will face strict measures, as their weapon will be confiscated and necessary legal actions will be taken against them without any leniency, and the directorate called on all residents of the city of Hasakah to fully cooperate with the security forces and report any violations.
This decision comes after days of tension that the city witnessed due to riots carried out by armed individuals in Hasakah, which necessitated a wide security mobilization.
The internal security forces announced on October 8 that they had reinforced the deployment of their units "in various neighborhoods of the city of Hasakah, and continued to conduct patrols to maintain security and restore calm, following the actions of lawless armed individuals who fired randomly in the city." They mentioned in a statement that these measures are part of addressing security violations and attempts to incite chaos, preserving the safety of residents and property, and ensuring stability in the city.
Local activists accused elements belonging to the "Revolutionary Youth," which is active in areas controlled by the "Syrian Democratic Forces," of instigating the riots last Thursday in response to the popular movement in Hasakah demanding the return of the Syrian state's presence in the governorate.
Recently, the city of Hasakah witnessed large-scale popular demonstrations, the first of their kind, raising Syrian flags and calling for the removal of party banners and the return of state institutions to the governorate and the enforcement of security. In Freedom Square in the center of the city, large numbers of residents gathered last Friday under the slogan "Friday of Raising the Syrian Flag," a day after an event attended by government officials who raised the flag in the same square.
