Iran has prepared a list of conditions for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and Iranian National Security Council Chairman Mohsen Rezaei stated in television remarks last night (Thursday) that any memorandum of understanding with Washington includes a number of conditions, the foremost of which is the end of the United States' war in the region, including Lebanon, and the withdrawal of Israel from the areas it has occupied.
He said, "The southern suburbs and Beirut are a red line for us," considering that Tehran is following developments "with great seriousness." Rezaei added that the Iranian conditions include ending the war in Gaza and stopping Israeli attacks on Syria.
The memorandum of understanding signed last June does not explicitly mention Gaza or Syria, but it states "the immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon."
Rezaei warned that the continuation of the American blockade on Iranian ports could push Tehran to target American economic interests "with all strength and intensity."
The Iranian official stated that Iran is currently working on establishing "new export routes" that are gradually expanding, according to him.
Meanwhile, informed sources revealed that the administration of President Donald Trump has repeatedly informed intermediaries of its disinterest in reviving the memorandum of understanding signed with Iran last June, complicating ongoing diplomatic efforts to resume negotiations between the two parties, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The initial agreement, which Trump signed at the Palace of Versailles and was negotiated with the help of his Vice President J.D. Vance, aimed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and resume talks on the Iranian nuclear program and end the war, in exchange for easing sanctions and allowing Tehran access to its frozen funds abroad.
