كشفت تقارير استخباراتية أمريكية تصاعد المخاوف من أنشطة تجسس إسرائيلية تستهدف المفاوضين الأمريكيين المشاركين في المحادثات مع إيران، وفق ما نقلته صحيفة «نيويورك تايمز» عن مسؤولين حاليين وسابقين.
وأفادت التقارير بأن تل أبيب تسعى لمعرفة استراتيجية الرئيس دونالد ترمب ومواقفه المتغيرة تجاه الملف الإيراني، في وقت تشهد فيه العلاقات الأمنية بين البلدين توتراً متزايداً رغم استمرار التنسيق العسكري الوثيق.
وذكرت أن إسرائيل كثفت جهودها للتنصت على كبار المسؤولين الأمريكيين، من بينهم المبعوث ستيف ويتكوف، ومسؤولون في وزارة الدفاع (البنتاغون). ورفعت وكالة الاستخبارات الدفاعية الأمريكية مستوى التهديد المرتبط بالاستخبارات الإسرائيلية من "مرتفع" إلى "حرج"، مشيرة إلى تزايد حوادث التجسس خلال الأشهر الأخيرة.
وبحسب مسؤولين أمريكيين، فإن هذه الأنشطة "ليست مفاجئة"، إذ لطالما مارست إسرائيل عمليات جمع معلومات استخباراتية ضد الحلفاء والخصوم على حد سواء، إلا أن مستوى القلق الحالي يُعد الأعلى مقارنة بأي حليف آخر للولايات المتحدة. وأوضح التقرير أن التعاون العسكري الوثيق بين الجانبين، خصوصاً في القيادة المركزية الأمريكية (CENTCOM)، لا يمنع كلاً منهما من حماية معلوماته الحساسة.
وتحدثت عن وقائع سابقة بينها اكتشاف برامج تنصت زرعت سراً على هواتف جنود أمريكيين في إسرائيل، إضافة إلى حوادث تعود إلى أعوام سابقة شملت محاولات زرع أجهزة تنصت داخل منشآت أمريكية وسيارات تابعة للخدمة السرية.
في المقابل، رفض البيت الأبيض التعليق رسمياً على التقارير، بينما نفت السفارة الإسرائيلية في واشنطن الاتهامات، مؤكدة أن إسرائيل لا تتجسس على مسؤولين أو مؤسسات أمريكية. وأقر مسؤولون أمريكيون بأن اعتماد بعض كبار المسؤولين على الهواتف الشخصية والطائرات الخاصة في أعمال تتعلق بالأمن القومي جعلهم أهدافاً سهلة لعمليات التجسس من الحلفاء والخصوم على حد سواء.
American intelligence reports have revealed growing concerns about Israeli espionage activities targeting American negotiators involved in talks with Iran, according to what the "New York Times" reported from current and former officials.
Reports indicate that Tel Aviv is seeking to understand President Donald Trump's strategy and his shifting positions regarding the Iranian file, at a time when security relations between the two countries are experiencing increasing tension despite ongoing close military coordination.
The reports mentioned that Israel has intensified its efforts to eavesdrop on senior American officials, including envoy Steve Witkoff and officials at the Department of Defense (the Pentagon). The U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency raised the threat level associated with Israeli intelligence from "high" to "critical," noting an increase in espionage incidents in recent months.
According to American officials, these activities are "not surprising," as Israel has long conducted intelligence-gathering operations against both allies and adversaries alike, but the current level of concern is considered the highest compared to any other U.S. ally. The report clarified that the close military cooperation between the two sides, especially within the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), does not prevent either from protecting its sensitive information.
It discussed previous incidents, including the discovery of eavesdropping programs secretly planted on the phones of American soldiers in Israel, in addition to incidents from previous years that involved attempts to plant listening devices inside American facilities and vehicles belonging to the Secret Service.
In contrast, the White House declined to officially comment on the reports, while the Israeli embassy in Washington denied the accusations, asserting that Israel does not spy on American officials or institutions. American officials acknowledged that the reliance of some senior officials on personal phones and private jets for national security-related work has made them easy targets for espionage from both allies and adversaries alike.
