أعلن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، الجمعة، استعداده لإعادة إطلاق الدور الأمريكي كوسيط بين مصر وإثيوبيا، بهدف التوصل إلى حل نهائي لأزمة تقاسم مياه نهر النيل، في ظل استمرار الخلافات حول سد النهضة الإثيوبي.
وقال ترمب، في رسالة وجّهها إلى الرئيس المصري عبدالفتاح السيسي ونشرها عبر منصته «تروث سوشيال»، إنه يثمّن الدور الذي لعبته القاهرة في التوسط لوقف إطلاق النار بين إسرائيل وحماس، مشيداً بإدارة مصر للتحديات الأمنية والإنسانية التي واجهت المنطقة منذ السابع من أكتوبر 2023، وما ترتب على ذلك من تداعيات مباشرة على الشعب المصري.
وأضاف الرئيس الأمريكي أن بلاده، انطلاقاً من علاقات الصداقة والالتزام بدعم السلام والاستقرار، مستعدة لاستئناف الوساطة بين القاهرة وأديس أبابا من أجل معالجة ملف تقاسم مياه النيل «بصورة مسؤولة ونهائية». وأكد أن واشنطن تدرك الأهمية الحيوية للنيل بالنسبة لمصر وشعبها، وتسعى إلى المساعدة في التوصل إلى اتفاق يراعي احتياجات مصر والسودان وإثيوبيا على المدى البعيد.
وشدد ترمب على أن الولايات المتحدة ترى أنه لا ينبغي لأي دولة أن تنفرد بالسيطرة على موارد نهر النيل بما يضر بمصالح الدول الأخرى، مؤكداً أن الخبرة الفنية والمفاوضات العادلة والشفافة، إلى جانب دور أمريكي فاعل في التنسيق والرقابة، يمكن أن تفضي إلى اتفاق دائم بين دول حوض النيل.
وأشار إلى أن أي تسوية ناجحة يجب أن تضمن تدفقات مائية منتظمة لمصر والسودان خلال فترات الجفاف، وفي الوقت نفسه تمكّن إثيوبيا من توليد الكهرباء، مع إمكانية تقاسم أو تصدير جزء منها إلى دول الجوار.
وختم ترمب رسالته بالتأكيد على أن حل التوترات المرتبطة بسد النهضة الإثيوبي يتصدر أولوياته، معرباً عن أمله في ألا يتحول الخلاف القائم إلى صراع عسكري بين مصر وإثيوبيا، في إطار مساعيه لتحقيق سلام مستدام في الشرق الأوسط وأفريقيا
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Friday his readiness to re-establish the American role as a mediator between Egypt and Ethiopia, aiming to reach a final solution to the crisis of sharing the waters of the Nile River, amid ongoing disputes over the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
Trump stated in a message directed to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, which he published through his platform "Truth Social," that he values the role Cairo played in mediating the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, praising Egypt's management of the security and humanitarian challenges faced by the region since October 7, 2023, and the direct repercussions that followed for the Egyptian people.
The U.S. president added that his country, based on friendship and a commitment to supporting peace and stability, is ready to resume mediation between Cairo and Addis Ababa to address the issue of Nile water sharing "in a responsible and final manner." He emphasized that Washington recognizes the vital importance of the Nile to Egypt and its people, and seeks to help reach an agreement that considers the long-term needs of Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia.
Trump stressed that the United States believes no country should monopolize control over the Nile River's resources to the detriment of the interests of other nations, affirming that technical expertise and fair, transparent negotiations, along with an active American role in coordination and oversight, can lead to a lasting agreement among the Nile Basin countries.
He pointed out that any successful settlement must ensure regular water flows to Egypt and Sudan during periods of drought, while simultaneously enabling Ethiopia to generate electricity, with the possibility of sharing or exporting part of it to neighboring countries.
Trump concluded his message by emphasizing that resolving the tensions related to the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is a top priority for him, expressing hope that the ongoing dispute does not escalate into military conflict between Egypt and Ethiopia, as part of his efforts to achieve sustainable peace in the Middle East and Africa.
