The sports community was devastated by the death of former Al-Ahli club and Saudi national volleyball player Captain Salem Basindwah, after a long battle with cancer that concluded his lengthy treatment outside the Kingdom.

The deceased had been receiving treatment in the United States in recent months before passing away there, and his body was transported back to the Kingdom, arriving yesterday (Wednesday) in Jeddah.

The funeral prayer for the deceased was held after the evening prayer at Al-Jafali Mosque in Jeddah, and his body was laid to rest in the Ummna Hawwa cemetery, attended by several family members, relatives, friends, and colleagues from the sports community.

Basindwah is considered one of the names that left a mark on Saudi volleyball through his representation of Al-Ahli club and the Saudi national team. He was known for his high morals and good relationships with athletes, which made the news of his death bring widespread sorrow among his fans and colleagues.

Athletes and journalists shared messages of condolence and sympathy on social media, recalling his sports career and humanitarian virtues, praying to God to grant him His vast mercy and forgiveness, and to inspire his family and loved ones with patience and solace.

May God have mercy on the deceased and grant him a place in His vast paradise.. Indeed, we belong to God and to Him we shall return.
