كشف مستشار الرئيس الأمريكي للشؤون الأفريقية مسعد بولس، اليوم (السبت)، اجتماعاً موسعاً عقد للمجموعة الرباعية (الولايات المتحدة، والسعودية، والإمارات، ومصر) المعنية بالسودان، وذلك بعد نفي مجلس السيادة السوداني وجود أي مفاوضات مباشرة أو غير مباشرة مع وفد من قوات الدعم السريع في أمريكا.
وكتب بولس على حسابه في «إكس»: الرباعية اتفقت على إنشاء لجنة عملياتية لتعزيز التنسيق بشأن الأولويات العاجلة في السودان الغارق بالحرب منذ أكثر من سنتين، موضحاً أن الرئيس الأمريكي يريد السلام.
بحث تعزيز السلام
وأشار إلى أن الاجتماع بحث تعزيز الجهود الرامية لتحقيق السلام، مبيناً أن الاجتماع تناول أيضاً الجهود الرامية لتأمين هدنة إنسانية عاجلة ووقف إطلاق النار.
ولفت إلى أن الرباعية أكدت الالتزام بإنهاء معاناة الشعب السوداني.
وكان مجلس السيادة السوداني نفى وجود أي مفاوضات مباشرة أو غير مباشرة مع وفد من قوات الدعم السريع في واشنطن، رغم أن مصادر دبلوماسية قالت إن وزير الخارجية السوداني محيي الدين سالم وصل إلى الولايات المتحدة في زيارة رسمية تهدف إلى مناقشة الجهود الرامية إلى وقف الحرب الدائرة في السودان منذ أكثر من سنتين.
مباحثات سودانية في واشنطن
وذكرت المصادر أن الوزير السوداني أجرى سلسلة من الاجتماعات في واشنطن مع مسؤولين بالإدارة الأمريكية، من بينهم كبير مستشاري الرئيس الأمريكي لشؤون الشرق الأوسط وأفريقيا مسعد بولس، كما عقد لقاءات مع عدد من نظرائه العرب.
وذكرت المصادر أن الزيارة تأتي بدعوة رسمية من الإدارة الأمريكية لبحث بعض الملفات ذات الاهتمام المشترك.
وأكدت وزارة الخارجية السودانية في بيان لاحق، أن زيارة الوزير إلى واشنطن تأتي من أجل مواصلة الحوار مع الجانب الأمريكي وتعزيز العلاقات الثنائية والتعاون بين البلدين، فضلاً عن دعم السلام في السودان.
وكان مسؤولاً دبلوماسياً قد قال، (الخميس)، إن دول الرباعية (الولايات المتحدة والسعودية والإمارات ومصر) ستجتمع في واشنطن مع ممثلين عن الجيش السوداني وقوات الدعم السريع لدفع الطرفين إلى هدنة إنسانية تمتد لثلاثة أشهر، مبيناً أن الهدف هو الضغط بشكل موحّد لتثبيت وقف إطلاق النار والسماح بدخول المساعدات الإنسانية إلى المدنيين.
وكانت الرباعية قد أصدرت في سبتمبر الماضي بياناً مشتركاً دعت فيه إلى هدنة إنسانية يتبعها وقف دائم لإطلاق النار، ثم فترة انتقالية نحو حكم مدني تمتد تسعة أشهر.
The U.S. President's Advisor for African Affairs, Musaad Boulos, revealed today (Saturday) that a broad meeting was held for the Quad group (the United States, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Egypt) concerning Sudan, following the Sudanese Sovereignty Council's denial of any direct or indirect negotiations with a delegation from the Rapid Support Forces in America.
Boulos wrote on his account on "X": The Quad agreed to establish an operational committee to enhance coordination regarding urgent priorities in Sudan, which has been engulfed in war for more than two years, noting that the U.S. President wants peace.
Discussing Peace Enhancement
He pointed out that the meeting discussed enhancing efforts aimed at achieving peace, indicating that the meeting also addressed efforts to secure an urgent humanitarian ceasefire and a cessation of hostilities.
He noted that the Quad reaffirmed its commitment to ending the suffering of the Sudanese people.
The Sudanese Sovereignty Council had denied the existence of any direct or indirect negotiations with a delegation from the Rapid Support Forces in Washington, despite diplomatic sources stating that Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohieddin Salim arrived in the United States on an official visit aimed at discussing efforts to stop the war that has been ongoing in Sudan for more than two years.
Sudanese Discussions in Washington
Sources mentioned that the Sudanese minister held a series of meetings in Washington with officials from the U.S. administration, including the Senior Advisor to the U.S. President for Middle Eastern and African Affairs, Musaad Boulos, and also met with several of his Arab counterparts.
Sources indicated that the visit comes at the official invitation of the U.S. administration to discuss some files of mutual interest.
The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs later confirmed in a statement that the minister's visit to Washington aims to continue the dialogue with the U.S. side and strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries, as well as support peace in Sudan.
A diplomatic official stated on Thursday that the Quad countries (the United States, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Egypt) will meet in Washington with representatives from the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces to push both parties towards a humanitarian ceasefire lasting three months, indicating that the goal is to apply unified pressure to solidify the ceasefire and allow humanitarian aid to reach civilians.
The Quad had issued a joint statement last September calling for a humanitarian ceasefire followed by a permanent cessation of hostilities, and then a transitional period towards civilian rule lasting nine months.
