كشفت وسائل إعلام إسرائيلية اليوم (الإثنين) عن مخطط لرئيس الوزراء بنيامين نتنياهو لاحتلال كامل غزة وتنفيذ عملية عسكرية فيها، رغم معارضة المنظومة الأمنية الإسرائيلية تنفيذ أي عمليات بمناطق يوجد بها أسرى.
وأشارت هيئة البث الإسرائيلية إلى أن رئيس الأركان ألغى زيارته لأمريكا بعد الأنباء عن قرار نتنياهو احتلال غزة، فيما نقلت القناة 14 الإسرائيلية عن مقربين من نتنياهو قولهم: على رئيس الأركان الاستقالة إذا واصل معارضة هذا القرار. ورجح وزراء في الحكومة استقالة رئيس الأركان إذا تم تنفيذ خطة احتلال كامل لقطاع غزة، في إشارة إلى وجود خلافات حادة بين القيادة السياسية والعسكرية بشأن مستقبل العمليات في القطاع.
وفي ما يتعلق بالموقف الأمريكي من التصعيد الإسرائيلي أفادت صحيفة يديعوت أحرنوت الإسرائيلية بأن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب أعطى نتنياهو الضوء الأخضر لشنّ عملية عسكرية مكثفة على حركة حماس، مبينة أن «القرار تم اتخاذه بالفعل، ونتجه نحو احتلال كامل لقطاع غزة والحسم مع حركة حماس».
لكن الصحيفة نقلت عن مصادر عن مقربين من نتنياهو أنه من غير المستبعد أن يكون هذا جزءاً من تكتيك تفاوضي للضغط على حركة حماس.
من جهتها، قالت هيئة البث الإسرائيلية إن نتنياهو سيعقد غداً اجتماعاً أمنياً لبحث توسيع العمليات العسكرية في غزة بمناطق يُعتقد أن الرهائن فيها، والأجهزة الأمنية لا تزال تعارض توسيع القتال في مناطق لم يتحرك بها الجيش خشية المساس بالرهائن.

The Israeli Broadcasting Authority indicated that the Chief of Staff canceled his visit to America following reports of Netanyahu's decision to occupy Gaza, while Channel 14 reported that close associates of Netanyahu said: the Chief of Staff should resign if he continues to oppose this decision. Ministers in the government speculated that the Chief of Staff would resign if a full occupation plan for the Gaza Strip were implemented, indicating sharp disagreements between the political and military leadership regarding the future of operations in the sector.
Regarding the American stance on the Israeli escalation, the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that U.S. President Donald Trump gave Netanyahu the green light to launch an intensive military operation against Hamas, stating that "the decision has indeed been made, and we are heading towards a complete occupation of the Gaza Strip and a resolution with Hamas."
However, the newspaper quoted sources close to Netanyahu as saying that it is not unlikely that this is part of a negotiating tactic to pressure Hamas.
