Lebanese Minister of Justice Adel Nassar emphasized that "Hezbollah" will not be allowed to drag Lebanon and the Lebanese people with it if it chooses to commit suicide by refusing to surrender its weapons.
In a tweet on the X platform, Nassar stated, "If Hezbollah chooses to commit suicide by refusing to surrender its weapons, it will not be allowed to drag Lebanon and the Lebanese people with it."
The Lebanese Cabinet will convene on Tuesday at the presidential palace, chaired by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, to discuss two main items: the implementation of the ministerial statement regarding the assertion of state sovereignty over all its territory solely by its own forces, and to discuss the arrangements for the cessation of hostilities for November 2024.
This session comes amid sensitive political atmospheres, as the issue of asserting state sovereignty over all Lebanese territory, specifically the topic of illegal weapons, remains a subject of wide debate among political forces.
In this context, the most pressing question arises: Will the ministers of the Amal Movement and Hezbollah participate in the session, especially since the items on the agenda are directly related to their political positions and their stance on weapons? The ministers of the Amal Movement and Hezbollah hold several key ministerial portfolios in the current government, including the ministries of finance and public health, along with other ministries. Their participation in Cabinet sessions is considered vital to ensure political balance within the government and its ability to make effective decisions. Therefore, their absence from this session could impact the government's ability to make decisive decisions regarding the implementation of the ministerial statement related to state sovereignty.
Since November of last year, a ceasefire agreement has been in effect in Lebanon following a conflict that lasted more than a year between Israel and Hezbollah, which escalated into an open confrontation starting in September. Despite this, Tel Aviv continues to carry out airstrikes in several Lebanese areas, particularly in the south, often claiming that they target elements of the party or its positions.
