The Sudanese Armed Forces' Rapid Support Forces announced their intention to lift the siege on the city of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state in the west of the country.
Political forces in Sudan called yesterday (Thursday) for the opening of humanitarian corridors to deliver food to the city of El Fasher, condemning the continued siege imposed by the "Rapid Support Forces" and the escalation of attacks. Political forces and resistance committees condemned the brutal siege on El Fasher in a joint statement, asserting that what is happening constitutes a war crime and a crime against humanity. The political forces held the Rapid Support Forces responsible for the killings and starvation, as well as for targeting civilians and health and service facilities.
The statement emphasized the necessity of a ceasefire in El Fasher, the withdrawal of the Rapid Support Forces from the vicinity of the city, and the opening of humanitarian corridors under international supervision to deliver food, medicine, water, and fuel, ensuring that humanitarian work is carried out without obstacles.
The Rapid Support Forces have intensified their attacks on El Fasher in recent days, and international efforts have not succeeded in achieving a humanitarian truce in the besieged city, which has been under siege for more than a year to allow for the entry of humanitarian aid.
Since last April, El Fasher has been living under a suffocating siege imposed by the Rapid Support Forces, leading to a complete collapse of health and food services. El Fasher has become a ghost town amidst the ruins of a war that has been ongoing for more than a year, and a devastating famine is looming on the horizon as essential food supplies run out and clean drinking water becomes unavailable.
