تحطمت مقاتلة تابعة للبحرية الأمريكية من طراز «إف-35» في ولاية كاليفورنيا بالقرب من قاعدة ليمور الجوية البحرية، في حادث كان الثاني من نوعه خلال عام.
وبحسب بيان صادر عن البحرية الأمريكية، قفز الطيار بالمظلة بسلام، فيما يظل سبب الحادث الذي وقع نحو الساعة 6:30 مساء قيد التحقيق.
وقالت البحرية الأمريكية، إن الطائرة كانت تابعة لسرب المقاتلات الضاربة VF-125، المعروف باسم «Rough Raiders». وVF-125 هو سرب بديل للأسطول، مسؤول عن تدريب الطيارين وأطقم الطائرات.
وأظهر مقطع فيديو متداول النيران والدخان الأسود الكثيف يتصاعدان من موقع التحطم في أراضٍ زراعية مسطحة ومفتوحة قرب قاعدة ليمور الجوية البحرية على بعد نحو 64 كيلومترا جنوب غرب مدينة فريسنو في وسط كاليفورنيا.
والطائرة هي أحد 3 نماذج من طائرة «إف-35 لايتنينغ» الثانية، المصممة للعمل على حاملات الطائرات الأمريكية. بينما تستخدم القوات الجوية الأمريكية طراز «إف-35 إيه»، وتستخدم قوات المارينز طراز «إف-35 بي»، المخصص للإقلاع القصير والهبوط العمودي.
يذكر أن سعر هذه الطائرة يبلغ نحو 100 مليون دولار، وهذا الحادث هو الثاني من نوعه هذا العام بعد تحطم طائرة «إف-35 إيه» تابعة للقوات الجوية في قاعدة إيلسون الجوية بألاسكا في يناير خلال مهمة تدريبية، وقد نجا الطيار أيضا في ذلك الحادث.
وتعد طائرة «إف-35»، المقاتلة من الجيل الخامس وإحدى أكثر الطائرات الحربية تقدما في العالم، حجر أساس في أسطول الجيش الأمريكي.
وهي مصنعة من قبل شركة «لوكهيد مارتن»، وتشتهر بقدراتها المتطورة في التخفي والقتال. وتقول الشركة إن أكثر من 17 دولة حول العالم مشاركة في برنامج «إف-35».
لكن الطائرة واجهت تدقيقا متزايدا في السنوات الأخيرة بسبب مشكلات الصيانة والجاهزية.
An American Navy fighter jet of the "F-35" model crashed in California near the Lemoore Naval Air Station, in what was the second incident of its kind this year.
According to a statement from the U.S. Navy, the pilot ejected safely, while the cause of the incident, which occurred around 6:30 PM, is under investigation.
The U.S. Navy stated that the aircraft belonged to the strike fighter squadron VF-125, known as the "Rough Raiders." VF-125 is a fleet replacement squadron responsible for training pilots and aircrew.
A circulating video showed flames and thick black smoke rising from the crash site in flat, open farmland near the Lemoore Naval Air Station, about 64 kilometers southwest of Fresno in central California.
The aircraft is one of three variants of the "F-35 Lightning" II, designed to operate on U.S. aircraft carriers. The U.S. Air Force uses the "F-35A" model, while the Marines use the "F-35B" model, which is designed for short takeoff and vertical landing.
It is noted that the price of this aircraft is around $100 million, and this incident is the second of its kind this year after an "F-35A" aircraft belonging to the Air Force crashed at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska in January during a training mission, where the pilot also survived that incident.
The "F-35" is a fifth-generation fighter and one of the most advanced warplanes in the world, serving as a cornerstone of the U.S. military fleet.
It is manufactured by Lockheed Martin and is known for its advanced stealth and combat capabilities. The company states that more than 17 countries around the world are involved in the "F-35" program.
However, the aircraft has faced increasing scrutiny in recent years due to maintenance and readiness issues.
