رفضت إسرائيل تجديد تأشيرات رؤساء 3 وكالات تابعة للأمم المتحدة على الأقل في غزة، وهو ما عزاه وكيل الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة للشؤون الإنسانية، توم فليتشر، إلى جهودهم في محاولة حماية المدنيين الفلسطينيين في قطاع غزة الذي تمزقه الحرب.
وأكد المتحدث باسم الأمم المتحدة، ستيفان دوجاريك، أنه لم يتم تجديد تأشيرات الرؤساء المحليين لكل من مكتب الأمم المتحدة لتنسيق الشؤون الإنسانية، ومفوضية الأمم المتحدة السامية لحقوق الإنسان، ووكالة الأمم المتحدة لإغاثة وتشغيل اللاجئين الفلسطينيين «الأونروا» في الأشهر الأخيرة.
وأوضح فليتشر أن «إسرائيل تمنع تجديد التأشيرات أو تقلص مدتها بشكل صريح كرد فعل على جهودنا في مجال حماية المدنيين».
وأعلن وزير الخارجية الإسرائيلي جدعون ساعر، الأحد، عدم تمديد تأشيرة إقامة رئيس مكتب التنسيق الإنساني التابع للأمم المتحدة «أوتشا» في قطاع غزة جوناثان ويتال، على خلفية ما وصفه بسلوكٍ «متحيّز».
وقال ساعر في منشور أوردته صحيفة «معاريف» العبرية: «لكل خدعة حدود. عقب السلوك المتحيز الذي شوّه الحقائق، وقدم تقارير كاذبة، وانتهك قواعد الحياد الخاصة بالأمم المتحدة».
وأضاف وزير الخارجية الإسرائيلي: «بناءً على توصية الجهات المهنية، أصدرت تعليماتي بعدم تمديد تأشيرة إقامة جوناثان فيتول. إسرائيل لن تتعاون مع من يروّج الأكاذيب عنها»، على حد تعبيره.
Israel has refused to renew the visas of at least three heads of United Nations agencies in Gaza, which the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Tom Fletcher, attributed to their efforts to protect Palestinian civilians in the war-torn Gaza Strip.
The UN spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, confirmed that the visas of the local heads of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) have not been renewed in recent months.
Fletcher explained that "Israel is explicitly preventing the renewal of visas or shortening their duration in response to our efforts in the area of civilian protection."
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar announced on Sunday that the residency visa of the head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Gaza, Jonathan Wital, would not be extended, citing what he described as "biased" behavior.
Sa'ar said in a post reported by the Hebrew newspaper "Maariv": "Every deception has its limits. Following the biased behavior that distorted the facts, provided false reports, and violated the UN's neutrality rules."
The Israeli Foreign Minister added: "Based on the recommendation of professional bodies, I instructed not to extend Jonathan Wital's residency visa. Israel will not cooperate with those who promote lies about it," as he put it.
