Yair, the son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, revealed the main reasons that led him to flee Israel at the beginning of 2023 and head to the United States, confirming that he fears for his life from his father's opponents.
In an interview with the local channel "TV" today (Monday), the son of the man wanted by the International Criminal Court stated that he left Israel out of fear for his life, explaining that his father's dismissal of Defense Minister Yoav Galant from his position sparked angry reactions in Israel.
He added: "I was home alone, and at one point I was very afraid that the protesters would break into the house. They climbed the fences carrying torches, which I consider a fascist tactic," noting that he received death threats and saw that the police were doing nothing, and it was clear that there were high-level orders to allow this to happen.
He indicated that he made the decision to stay away for his safety, pointing out that Israel is not a democracy at the moment, referring to his father's criminal regime.
He noted that there are militias operating as military units funded by "mentally ill" individuals—some of whom are inside and outside mental hospitals—using protests "as a cover for terrorism aimed at making your life unbearable until you surrender," explaining that the Kaplan protest movement (opposing laws to limit judicial powers) launched a surveillance operation against him using private investigators who were paid millions of dollars.
He stated that the Supreme Court has an undemocratic role and is an unelected body with enormous power.
Since January until October 7, 2023, Israel has witnessed unprecedented protests against the government demanding to limit judicial powers and Netanyahu's attempts to impose laws that would eliminate the role of the Supreme Court and prevent it from intervening in the decisions of the government and the Knesset, which is controlled by the Israeli right.
