أكد الأمين العام لمجلس التعاون الخليجي جاسم البديوي، اليوم (الإثنين)، أن الاجتماع المشترك الأول بين مجلس التعاون وسورية، الذي عُقد في مكة، يعد خطوة عملية نحو تنسيق الرؤى وتعزيز التعاون، كونه يدشن مرحلة جديدة من العلاقات والتعاون المشترك.
وشدد البديوي على أن سورية دولة شقيقة وجزء أصيل من نسيج الأمة العربية بتاريخها العريق، موضحاً إن دول مجلس التعاون قد دأبت على الوقوف إلى جانب الشعب السوري انطلاقاً من قناعة راسخة بأن سورية القوية والآمنة والمستقرة ليست مصلحة سورية وحسب، بل مصلحة خليجية وعربية ودولية.
وأشار إلى أن موقف مجلس التعاون ثابت تجاه احترام سورية واستقلالها ووحدة أراضيها ورافض للتدخلات الأجنبية في شؤونها الداخلية وللإرهاب والتطرف، مشيراً إلى أن أمن سورية واستقرارها ركيزة أساسية من ركائز استقرار أمن المنطقة.
وأفصح الأمين العام لمجلس التعاون الخليجي عن عزم دول المجلس الاستمرار تجاه اتخاذ الخطوات اللازمة من أجل تنسيق جهود دول المجلس فيما يُقدم من مساعدات إلى سورية، وتدعو الدول الست الشركاء والدول والمنظمات المعنية لتقديم كل وسائل الدعم للشعب السوري ورفع العقوبات المفروضة على سورية؛ لتمكينها من التعافي الاقتصادي وتلبية حاجاتها الإنسانية والتنموية.
وأشار إلى إن دعم مجلس التعاون لسورية لا يقتصر على الجانب الإغاثي والإنساني، بل هو داعم للجهود الدولية لتحقيق السلام والأمن في سورية. مؤكداً حرص مجلس التعاون والأمانة العامة على المشاركة في المؤتمر الوزاري رفيع المستوى بشأن سورية الذي استضافته فرنسا بتاريخ 13 فبراير الماضي لما يمثله من خطوة مهمة لدعم عملية انتقالية شاملة والوقوف على الحاجات التي تتطلبها المرحلة الحالية لإعادة الاستقرار.
ولفت إلى أن اجتماع اليوم هو بداية مرحلة جديدة من العمل المشترك تعيد لسورية مكانتها التي تستحقها، متطلعاً لبناء شراكة وحوار استراتيجي مع سورية، وذلك على غرار الحوارات والشراكات الاستراتيجية بين دول المجلس والدول العربية الأخرى؛ حتى يكون هذا الحوار الاستراتيجي خريطة طريق ومناراً لتطوير العلاقات الخليجية السورية على الأصعدة كافة.
The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jasem Al-Budaiwi, confirmed today (Monday) that the first joint meeting between the GCC and Syria, held in Mecca, is a practical step towards coordinating visions and enhancing cooperation, as it marks the beginning of a new phase in relations and joint cooperation.
Al-Budaiwi emphasized that Syria is a brotherly country and an integral part of the fabric of the Arab nation with its rich history, explaining that the GCC countries have consistently stood by the Syrian people based on a firm conviction that a strong, secure, and stable Syria is not only in Syria's interest but also in the interest of the Gulf, Arab, and international communities.
He pointed out that the GCC's position is steadfast regarding respecting Syria's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and it rejects foreign interventions in its internal affairs as well as terrorism and extremism, noting that Syria's security and stability are fundamental pillars of regional security stability.
The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council expressed the council's determination to continue taking necessary steps to coordinate the efforts of the member states in providing assistance to Syria, calling on the six countries, partners, and relevant organizations to provide all means of support to the Syrian people and lift the sanctions imposed on Syria to enable it to achieve economic recovery and meet its humanitarian and developmental needs.
He indicated that the GCC's support for Syria is not limited to humanitarian and relief aspects but also supports international efforts to achieve peace and security in Syria. He affirmed the GCC's and the General Secretariat's keenness to participate in the high-level ministerial conference on Syria hosted by France on February 13, as it represents an important step to support a comprehensive transitional process and address the needs required for the current phase of restoring stability.
He noted that today's meeting marks the beginning of a new phase of joint work that restores Syria's rightful place, looking forward to building a strategic partnership and dialogue with Syria, similar to the strategic dialogues and partnerships between the GCC countries and other Arab states; so that this strategic dialogue serves as a roadmap and beacon for developing Gulf-Syrian relations on all levels.
