«أنا من ضيّع في الإعلام عمره».. بهذه العبارة، التي كان يرددها بصدق أقرب إلى الاعتراف، رسم الزميل الصحفي سعود بن عبدالعزيز العتيبي ملامح سيرته، وكأنما يلخّص بها حياة نذرها للصحافة بكل ما فيها من شغفٍ وتعبٍ ومكابدةٍ.
برحيله، تطوي الساحة الإعلامية صفحةَ اسمٍ ظلَّ حاضراً في وجدان زملائه وقرّائه، تاركاً أثراً مهنيّاً وأدبيّاً يفيض وفاءً وإخلاصاً للمهنة.
العتيبي بدأ مسيرته من مجلة اليمامة، قبل أن ينتقل إلى صحيفة الرياض، إذ كتب مقالات وموضوعات فتحت نوافذ على قضايا الناس وهموم المجتمع. عُرف برصانته ودقة طرحه، والتزامه بالصدق والبحث عن الحقيقة، حتى صار قلمه شاهداً على مرحلة مُهمّة من تاريخ الصحافة السعودية.
